Where? So much of the land is federal, expropriated in the late 1940s and has in the past subject to flooding. The land between Billings Bridge and Hurdman's Bridge was a large municipal dump in the 1950s and will be difficult to develop. Two office buildings at Billings Bridge are abandoned because of repeated flooding. Any high-rise development will have to pushed back significantly from the river with a couple of exceptions. Even land at Billings Bridge slated for highrises may be challenging because of contamination from past gas stations and auto garages.

Anybody have a recent photo of tower 2 under construction or how many floors they're up to?

This probably isn't the exact photo you were wanting, but it was too good to pass up:

^ I was expecting it to be taller by now! Seem slow! I guess Odenak being so quick makes every other project feel very slow.

Odenak is fast due to a simple rectangle floor plate with the same slab edge details for the tower portions.

So balconies alone can have a decent impact on timelines I guess.

Linear balconies ftw!

I find they often look better than this style IMO.

Looks to be on the 12th floor btw.

Agreed. Like Claridge Hintonburg, even with the angles, I feel it was able to rise quicker.

I need the extra space to store my winter tires and 4 bicycles anyhow.

I can't decide if I prefer Ottawas usual tease to build all the shorter stuff first or not. This thing will rise in prominence as the 3 towers go by. I think LUXO is the only multi tower spot where they just went full tilt and built the tallest one first.

P2 getting an 18m bump is certainly something.

I respect the 30m variance on this. Maybe the towers will look better as a threesome, in a U shape and a wild difference in heights. Damn that Montreal road facing podium though.

Perhaps it will look better when retail fills in and gets us some colourful marquess. Wonder if the shops main door will face inward though and MTL rd will just be fake doors and the windows will be covered in laminate vinyl. I feel like that should be illegal. Covering your store front windows in vinyl and turning your back to the street. CP 1&2 are a good example of that. That Superstore on Richmond Rd makes me want to take a melonballer to my eyes.

If you think of the CBC studios on Sparks.. they literally build frickin partition walls and all you see are studs and the backside of drywall. That's beyond rude and does a hurting Sparks no favors at all.

But yeah. Give me some colourful signage, active storefronts, grown in trees, benches with people actually using the space for non bum/drug things I will be happy to re-evaluate my opinion in a few years.

Claridge Ascent is another example of the tallest going up first. And the Dale. We have a few.

I agree the podium is the most offensive. Red brick would have made all the difference. As you said "Give me some colourful signage, active storefronts, grown in trees, benches with people actually using the space for non bum/drug things I will be happy to re-evaluate my opinion in a few years."

Oh yeah. The ole Dale. Man that building is so fine for a basic design and material set. Masterclass.

I must have selective memory.

I guess I take it back. We build the shorter tower first... SOMETIMES

This has got to be one of the worst modern projects in Ottawa. I can't believe the second tower is even worse than the first.

As much as I didn't want a direct repeat of the first... at least the first is palatable if not desirable.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Had the railings just matched the rendering, we wouldn't have so much to say. Semi-opaque with slab-edge covers, covering much of the precast and distracting from the main cladding, smoother, less abrupt with the exposed slab edges, etc. etc.
