Thought you guys might appreciate this. I've created similar ones for my home Niagara Region, as well as Winnipeg and Saskatoon. I have love for Edmonton as well

*CSD = Census subdivision

Interesting that, with the exception of Beaumont, the COE itself had the highest growth rate. Thanks for that.

Thank you - great info. If you have one for Calgary it would be great to see - where the growth is occurring.

Wild to see that Spruce Grove is closing in on 50,000 people, I still remember it as (seemingly) 20,000 for years lol

Which are the highly desired, favoured suburbs of Edmonton?
Are there any with a main/high street urban street of shops/restaurants or is it mostly unfettered sprawl seen anywhere?

I'll see if I can put together a Calgary one this evening

Not that it is related, but I recently saw that Winnipeg just reached a population 850,000!

Winnipeg is kinda like our Minneapolis. Almost always steady growth, educated populace, low unemployment compared to the Canadian average and arguably the sturdiest most resilient economy in Canada. Per capita it's also the Filipino capital of Canada which have had a positive impact on the city.

Quite remarkable. I remember when Sherwood Park and St. Albert were 50k.

Done!
So you can compare Edmonton and Calgary's growth

*CSD = Census subdivision

It should be noted that it's estimated the city of Edmonton grew quicker (+40,524) than the city of Calgary (+39,825) from 2024-2025 in both raw numbers and % growth.

Calgary

Tsuu T'ina Nation data wasn't available for 2021 so I used the 2016 data
(I'm sure the growth isn't too far off)

Data source:
https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/...025&referencePeriods=20250101%2C20250101

**Caveat: for some reason my CMA calculations for Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon--adding each and every census subdivision individually are slightly off from the separate Stat Can CMA estimates and I have no idea why that is.
puzzling

interesting that it's being developed by an Indigenous band/tribe from Ontario. Manitoulin Island, no less!

It's even a bit closer. For some reason Stat Can census subdivision numbers when individually tallied come to slightly less than Stat Can CMA numbers

1,692,385. I have no idea where the additional 2k come from

The Province also keeps its own sets of figures.

https://regionaldashboard.alberta.ca/region/customregion/19/population/
https://regionaldashboard.alberta.ca/region/customregion/20/population/

The regional dashboard is very nifty since it's easy to make custom lists, including places south of Calgary (Foothills County, Okotoks, Diamond Valley, etc) that aren't within the CMA boundaries.

To construct a Residential building (Multi-unit Housing building with 247 Dwellings) with an underground parkade.
