Pretty basic and utilitarian, but, it is after all "affordable" housing.

It's an upgrade over that old hotel for sure, and will improve the look of this block. The hotel is a real eyesore.

Now if a credible developer would come along and develop the nearby Robinson St. parking lot that Galco abandoned, that would also help improve this neighbourhood.

-When I looked at googles maps that seems to be the what's now the skate park.

"Approve Hummingbird Atlantic Properties Inc Application for the proposed development at 41-51 and 55 Lewis Street..."

-I remember a year or so ago someone mentioning a developer was going door to door on Lewis Street trying to buy peoples properties. I have never heard of this developer before and nothing comes up searching them they must be just starting out.

I'm sure that's just for the Gateway Towers. They are just applying for the development grant money as is their right. There are no plans for the skate park.

Another couple of downtown notes:

1) - Cheesecake Garage is opening in a CRU in the mixed use building on the SW corner of the St. George/Weldon Street intersection. If I am not mistaken, this is the CRU that was originally Greg Turner's constituency office.
2) - Lasik MD is imminently moving to Englehart Street in Dieppe. That little section of Main Street just to the east of the Subway continues to struggle.

This is actually incorrect, there is one in Charlottetown and has been opened on Kent street for just under a year, it’s called Sumaq, they originally had a spot in the market, but opened a full fledge restaurant as well. Either way though, this is awesome, as someone who has been to Peru, their food is amazing, it is very hearty and will be a wonderful addition to the city, locals will love it.

The skate park is 186 Assomption. The Lafford application would be related to the under-construction Gateway project next to that.

The claim ro being the first Peruvian restaurant in the region comes from their own Facebook page. I guess they didn't know about the Charlottetown restaurant.

They announced they were opening a Moncton location about six months ago, and plastered the windows of their proposed location with banners announcing their imminent arrival, but, since then it has been <crickets>.

Have their plans changed?

I follow them on social media, and there was a post the other day mentioning it, so I believe it is still in the works. I think it said 'COMING SOON'.

Current status of the new cardiology wing at the Moncton Hospital, currently under construction.



This is nearly completely hidden from view in a back parking lot of the hospital, so many people probably are unaware that it is even being built.

This will probably open in the fall of 2027. but, given how construction went on the new maternal/newborn wing opened last year, I would not at all be surprised to see opening pushed back to 2028.

I remember when plans were being discussed for these expansion projects at the Moncton Hospital. This was over a decade ago........

“You will have three ways of paying,” Landry said. “You can download the HotSpot app, which is the best way because if you only park for 17 minutes it will only charge you for 17 minutes. If you are at a restaurant and have paid for an hour, you will get a message saying how much time you have left, so you can add more time. You will save money because you only pay for the exact amount of time that you are using.”

The second method is to use your phone to scan the QR code, which will take you to the online site and you can pay using your phone. The third method is to use one of the pay stations using credit, debit or cash.

In all cases, it will be important to know your licence plate number and the parking zone identification numbers.

As a senior citizen, Luddite and technophobe, I am not particularly pleased with this development, but, even King Canute could not hold back the tides, so I guess I'll have to download the damned app and get used to the new paradigm.

I have the Hotspot app and I use it. But it's not a great solution for everyone. I went to the art gallery / museum at the university on Thursday, and my brother in law came. I knew he would not have the hotspot app so my first attempt was to add his vehicle into my own app and just pay for his parking. But ... you cannot have two current parking sessions at once, so I could switch between paying for his car, or paying for my car, but not both. So he tried to download the app, but he needed his google password to do so and he did not have it. There was, therefore, no way for him to pay for parking. I find this is becoming increasingly common, that you have to find and download an app, then configure it with personal and payment information, just to do a transaction. if you do something all the time, well, it's fine, but if you are doing someone just once, it's an unacceptable burden and there should be an easier way.

Totally unacceptable when there isn’t a website or self serve kiosk to pay for your parking.

I’m no Luddite or technophobe, but requiring apps for so many things that don’t necessarily need apps has been getting out of hand for a while now.
