In light of that I almost feel guilty about posting this. Spotted the first camellia of the season (or is it the last camellia of the year) about to bloom here:

^There are some winter flowers that bloom around town, but those look like they might be on their way out.

On a related note, my neighbour was harvesting her persimmons the other day. She was kind enough to give me some.

Now that Ontario and Quebec are well into winter, we can now discuss 'real' weather network cold, where they have skiffs of snow outside the Oakville office.

I love persimmons!

They are everywhere here in Japan.

Been eating them like crazy the last six weeks, but the season is almost over here.

Also, first frost forecasted here tonight, low -1.

-5C with a wind chill of -11 and overcast. This would be pretty typical of mid January but unfortunately the calendar is saying it's early December 😕

Low of -8C (wind chill of -13) last night.

The warmspot was Port Hardy, BC at 10.0C.

Warmest low was Solander Island, BC at 8.0C

0C and light snow in Moncton at 8 AM.

We only got about 4-5 cm here overnight, so the plows haven't touched the residential streets yet (just the collectors and arterials). Only another 2-3 cm expected this morning, so the amounts aren't bad, but the snow is heavy and the tree limbs are bending a bit under the burden.

Some places like the Cobequid Mountains in NS and the Cape Breton Highlands are going to get a lot more, even up to 40-50 cm in Cape Breton. The situation in Cape Breton will be compounded by winds up to 90 km/he. They've issued an orange alert for them.

Dumb Ottawa radio going on about how cold it is. -8.

And 'omg' it's going to be -17 tomorrow night. Give me a break, wimps. None of these radio 'personalities' has ever used a block heater.

Light snow overnight about a cm. but pretty mild. Temps around 0 today. Was hoping for clearing skies but light snow is forecast for the next few days. Temps will fall to -17. But then back up.
So I'll miss the latest solar storm.

Sunrise 8:30 am- Sunset 4:17 pm.

Looks like Ontario/Quebec will largely experience a well below average December, our first since 2017. A throwback to the days when Decemeber used to be an actual Winter month instead of extended fall.

Today is a bit below seasonal; 2 degrees and overcast. Wind is making it feel a bit colder.

Tomorrow a high of just -5 and flurries/wind. Brrr.
