Any cancellations at YOW? Could be because of this:

Airlines warn of global travel disruptions after Airbus recall of 6,000 jets

Tim Hepher, Allison Lampert, Dan Catchpole and David Shepardson, Reuters
November 28, 2025 | Published 2 hours ago | Updated 22 minutes ago

Europe’s Airbus said on Friday it was ordering immediate repairs to 6,000 of its widely used A320 family of jets in a sweeping recall affecting more than half the global fleet, threatening upheaval during the busiest travel weekend of the year in the United States.

The setback appears to be among the largest recalls affecting Airbus in its 55-year history and comes weeks after the A320 overtook the Boeing 737 as the most-delivered model. At the time Airbus issued its directive, some 3,000 A320-family jets were in the air.

The fix mainly involves reverting to earlier software, but it must be carried out before the planes can fly again, according to a bulletin to airlines seen by Reuters. Numerous airlines on Friday said the repairs could potentially cause flight delays or cancellations.

Per Air Canada:

Airbus Advisory Air Canada has conducted a thorough review of our A319, A320 and A321 fleets. We can confirm there is no impact to our operations at this time.

Words written carefully. It may mean they don’t have any group 1 aircraft per the EAD, but could also mean any affected aircraft are or were to be in a position to service the EAD before the coming into force of the EAD / next revenue mission, thus no impact to the operation at this time.

https://ad.easa.europa.eu/blob/EASA_AD_2025_0268_E.pdf/EAD_2025-0268-E_1

Interestingly, the “affected ELAC” has a configuration ID that seems newer than the “serviceable ELAC” ID (104 vs 103+). It could be that an (software) update went awry and the fix is to backtrack.

Edit: confirmed to be the case by reading the associated AOT: https://avherald.com/files/AOT-A27N022-25-00.pdf

No 320 issues at YOW

Today's departure count: 69

Sun flights count (both transborder & international): 7

Today's cancellation count (so far): 2 - both UA to ORD - ORD is currently in the midst of a snowstorm…which is coming our way tomorrow but the worst of it is supposed to stay south of Ottawa - 5-10 cm forecast for YOW

Noticed that AC888 departed on gate 28 last night so I guess when they need the swing gate capacity this winter they'll tow it to remote parking so it's not occupying a gate for hours.

Tomorrow's AC889 is full in Y, 20/21 in PY and 18/20 in J. AC888 is 20/21 PY and 20/20 J.

AC470 tonight is on an ex-Lynx 7M8 as the YOW sun flight begins with the based aircraft tomorrow with the first CUN departure. AC1408 is listed as full tomorrow, and even the first northbound of the season looks to have a halfway decent loads based on the seat maps.

In other AC news, they have loaded the XLR on YHZ-LHR next October towards the end of their sun season. YOW is still showing the 333 through the end of next summer and then the 788 from the end of October. Still 3x weekly, though days 146 are loaded rather than 257 like this winter.

Porter has extended CUN into the summer 2x weekly on Tuesday/Saturday. Interesting that, for the southbound anyways, it's a 0600 departure meaning that it'll rely on O/D solely with no connections.

It's the only of the seasonal sun routes I see extended at this point.

When's the last time YOW has had a year-round non-Florida sun route?

Pre-covid once a week WG would run YOW-CUN year-round. The summer weekly would originate at YQB. Given YQB maintains multiple weekly summer sun flights, YOW should be able to fill twice weekly to CUN on O&D alone. Wonder what they’ll do with the frame the other 5 days? Extend MIA and/or PHX to year-round perhaps? The latter though would probably require an 0900 departure to allow for connections from the east to be viable in summer, especially if PD and AA continue to not codeshare on western US destinations that PD flies to.

Careful with your statement before you attract comments from the folks who believe any route from secondary cities is viable except YOW. YHZ-BRU no problem, YYC 14x weekly LHR service no problem, YWG to KEF no problem. YOW to anywhere is a big problem and the carrier is going bankrupt. They should make it 1x weekly winter seasonal. /s

Right, I had forgotten about that Sunwing service. Maybe they did VRA one year as well?

It's interesting to see them have such an early departure, if I recall they've rarely had early morning E2 departures other than YYZ. That is changing a bit this winter with some of the sun flights, but maybe a super early YVR flight along with the existing later morning departure (which is timed for east coast connections).

Nice to see the maturation of the YOW base.

”People” are generally dumb and say all sorts of things. You needn’t be concerned with that. The real issue is air service development at YOW and whoever is involved with that. That team, if there even is one, is incompetent. Also, the senior leadership / BoD at YOW can be condemned simply for having appointed a new CEO with absolutely no prior airport executive experience. A career public servant. We heard her vision for YOW early this year, which was in part to NOT pursue further international/TATL expansion.

Yes at one point the WG summer service was to VRA. Unfortunately I can’t remember what years it was one vs the other but I do remember 2019 being CUN.

Today's departure count: 80

Sun flights count (both transborder & international): 6

Today's cancellation count (so far): 1

AC458/AC469 are on an 333 today. And as mentioned, the first non-Florida AC sun flight is today with YOW-CUN operating. PD also has added a morning 0700 FLL flight and are up to 12x weekly before going to double daily in a couple of weeks.

The 333 might be a recovery flight to make up for yesterday’s weather and there prior YYZ is cancelled while the ensuing YYZ departs just 5 minutes later.

I was talking with a Porter pilot I know today and it was interesting to hear their perspective. Local pilots are VERY excited to see these sun destinations as they are quite a nice bonus for those who get those runs. Vallarta, for example, arrives around noon and they get the rest of that day and the entire next day off to explore (including a hotel on the beach). Great to see more flights that attract experienced/talented workers to our little 'hub'.

Thanks for the insight! Yeah, I was wondering how the longer term flights would work in terms of crew scheduling. PVR and LIR are both ~12hr round trips, I wasn't sure if that was low enough to have the crew operate both directions. I figure CUN/GCM/NAS should be low enough to have the same crew for both as well.

Ya they stay just one night with LIR. The hotel is near the airport but apparently offers a shuttle into the city; which they are excited to try (at least once). The rest are just quick turnarounds I believe.

Just looked at AC’s flight status page and this is now going to be a 77W - FIN 737.
