Good GOD. Don't google that "architect", unless you want visions of the CN tower being Gooched like a stuck pig.

Seriously...you know, our downtown isn't this f*cking war torn place unless you base it off Yegwave posts. Most "downtowns" were busier places 59-years ago than they are today for many reasons - suburbanization, decentralized employment, changing transportation modality, changing retail demand, shifting economies, etc.

^ I am talking about the safety of downtown based on the lack of respect and enforcement of laws.

Why should the safety of downtown change based on the changing scope of downtown as you describe it?

Because we are talking about a living city and not some paintings on a wall. There a lots of issues going on. Best to get yourself acquainted with them and see if there are solutions. Because what you are doing is rather idle and pre-mature, as if thinking there is a switch that flips on and off.

^ It appears I am intellectually unable to understand the nuances regarding Downtown deterioration based on comments by yourself and others on this thread.

I am sure there is a thread specifically related to this topic and not this one.

Enlighten me on that Thread. I am all ears.

It is a recurring theme in this thread that gets addressed periodically.

https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229004

Likewise, there is also a thread in the Vancouver subforum there that is explicitly about the topic, with a broader applicability to the problems.

Those langham buildings are so visible from the park, really wish something taller would go in and block them. They are so ugly.

Happy that these lots will be gone, disappointed in the design and scale of what's being proposed. Was in London recently, beautiful 8ish storey new builds all around. Just clean and timeless designs, simple high quality material palettes, not the hodge podge style and material we get here in edmonton.

Will there be retail at least? Since 106 street is the only street front for the new park, seems like an obvious road to have some coffee shops and retail lining with views to the park, and a place to grab some to-go foods or a coffee for a sit and walk through the park

No retail on this site, but some on the 102ave corner I am told.

We have too much retail, let's drive traffic to Jasper and existing spaces to stabilize them.

For the park, it needs a little portable coffee shop or two installed like those little seacans or cute 5th wheels.

^ Why are 6 story surburban buildings being built in an area that should house 26 story towers?

Is the city that desperate?

Is there a law that mandates that all buildings in downtown Edmonton need to be high-rise towers? When there are similar mid-rises in Vancouver and Montreal?

C'mon man.

100% agree. Downtowns should be made up of various building densities.

I get what he means though but I also agree with you. There's a walkup right beside Roger's to the west and it looks fine in that spot !

Are you kidding me?

That is one of the greatest eyesores downtown. It's low-rent trash who's lifespan is closer to the wrecking ball if there is any powers of good left in the world. Hypercheap materials and managed like its under receivership. It's like the trailer trash of apartment buildings.

You've just described 3/4 of Edmonton's rental stock.
