We have a rather large supply side opportunity here; pair that with a relatively low investor impact and there you go.

Im baffled by westrich's trajectory. Ultima and Encore are such wonderful designs, and now this is what they're delivering? That entryway would be awful in the suburbs, let alone somewhere central. The lack of mixed-use and homedepot special patio doors on their 108st project is likewise very disappointing. Bring back the old westrich

Ouch, and rightly so.

Remember the tower proposal for this site? What a difference between that and what is going 'up' now.

^ Back then Edmontonians were proud of their downtown and wanted to enjoy the center of the city.

Now they just fear it.

Fear made up from fear mongering on social media and such.

Most Edmontonians that aren't obsessed with social media and get out and enjoy the city still are proud of it.

If all you do is watch yegwave from the corner of your basement... maybe you should try meth instead, you might actually get out of your house and see its not such a bad place.

^I worked downtown for many years and watched it degrade from a sociable safe environment to what it is now.
Open your eyes instead of insulting fellow long standing Edmontonians.

Welcome to any big city in Canada. You see similar degradations in Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal.

It hits differently here given our complete lack of pedestrian traffic and normalized use in the Downtown.

Every single time I have guests from out of town they comment on the disorder, open drug use and ask 'where is everyone?'.

It's certainly getting better, but our Downtown continues to struggle at a different level than others.

Don't insult my intelligence - obviously there are problems in other cities.

But sticking your head in the sand and saying oh well other cities have problems we are screwed as well.

We can do better.

^ pot kettle black?

My head isnt stuck in the sand. Its just not ignorant to the rest of the world.

The core of the problem is that western society doesn't look after its mentally ill, and shames those who have fallen into addiction rather than offer support and recovery paths. It's doctors oversubscribing and the idea that the whole world needs to keep pushing every day to feed the machine.

but hey, go and do you, name call, etc.

That's correct.

They better give the exterior some love, but not touch it otherwise.

Just to clarify - I wasn’t referring to the streets of Edmonton with my “Where did everybody go ?” comment. It was in reference to lack of activity in this thread, there had not been a post since Sept. 22nd.

It's been like that (in my observations) since I could remember... so around 2004. It got a lot better after the Greyhound station was removed, but admittedly got worse after 2021.

Is it as bad as 2004? I think it has moved from certain locations to others. Like I remember 118th Ave (Alberta Ave portion) and Macauley and Beverly and Abbottsfield and Northlands area being bad, so spread around more and less concentrated, but now it all seems more concentrated downtown.
