This route is initially scheduled 4 weekly, increasing to 6 weekly from 25MAY26, 1 daily from 19JUN26, 5 weekly from 03SEP26, 4 weekly from 01OCT26. In addition, the airline will continue to maintain A350-900 aircraft on this route, instead of initially filed A340-300.

I wonder if they plan on launching yvr as year round.

I would assume they're a long ways away from that, especially still running the leisure brand Edelweiss rather than Swiss.

With that said, it's definitely moving in the right direction starting a month earlier!

I think the season was a bit shorter compared to last year. Last year the season begin in late April but using A340 until end of June. Overall the frequency is slightly higher in early season (May-June) and lower in late season (Sept-Oct).

In other change, AC added 4x weekly MIA for almost the entire season now (but they forgot to change the flight number!). AC also bump PVR to daily late season.

So to launch TPQ, AC move 1 flight a week from PVR to TPQ. Now the launch is cancelled, the weekly flight is moved to MIA, AND also added back to PVR. Where does the extra flight coming from??

^ it’s actually starting and ending almost identical to this summer - early May start (maybe it was a few days earlier this year) until end of October. So again almost a full 6 months.
The article mentioned it was originally scheduled to start early April but I never saw that reflected in any schedules. So not sure what that was about.

Condor also starting and ending almost the same as this year. Early May to late October

And on the more local front… a new route to Tofino and increased YYJ on HarbourAir

https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/251030-ybnw25dhc

And as for the never ending AC shuffle… AC back to 35 weekly to Mexico
Good to have some variety on Sun flights!

General Question for all:

when AC flew to MAD, OSL and FCO from Vancouver .... what plane type and frequency were those flights? and what dates if anyone knows?

The obvious answer is no, considering they pushed back the planned start date for next summer. They clearly wanted to start the route earlier next year and backtracked. That should answer your question.

AC never flew YVR-MAD, OSL or FCO. Maybe you're thinking CP / Canadian? Also, don't think CP ever served OSL. Maybe you're thinking AMS.

This is a CP timetable from '76, with a network map on page 7.

Here is a CP timetable from '81.

From their press release:

Flights will begin in May or June 2026 and will operate through September or October 2026 depending on the route. Learn more at delta.com.

Cannot see anything loaded yet but with Westjet flying twice daily and codesharing with DL, DL must thing there is enough demand to add a weekly flight on their own metal. DL will be at 14 flights on Saturdays next summer

Air Canada during Northern summer 2026 season tentatively schedules service increase on Vancouver – Honolulu route, as the airline schedules additional flight on Saturdays, on board Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. From 02MAY26, overall service increases from 7 to 8 weekly.

AC517 YVR0830 – 1120HNL 789 6
AC519 YVR1740 – 2050HNL 7M8 D

AC516 HNL1250 – 2125YVR 789 6
AC518 HNL2200 – 0655+1YVR 7M8 3

Apparently US air traffic controllers quitting thanks to not getting paid through the US government shutdown. I wonder if NavCan has a program to poach some of them in order to bring staffing at airports like YVR back up to strength?

that would be a good idea.

Will any of the flight cancellations have an affect here? they say International flights will not be affected but so many Canadians transit through the states.

Even if they did that it would take a year or two for the new hires to come up to speed. There's quite an extensive process that involves initial training (which might be able to be abbreviated for an experienced controller) and then what amounts to apprenticing at a specific airport or area control centre for an extended amount of time to learn all the procedures and quirks for that particular location.

That's a shame, but ultimately, I think it shows that the numbers just are not there. Wait a few years until Vancouver is a bigger city with a larger market. Then YVR><TPA would work, I'm sure.
