Broadway closed to vehicles for four months, wow.

I was guessing a full closure would happen but didn’t image it would be for that long.

If it's going down to 4 lanes on station blocks are they just widening the sidewalk evenly on both sides? It'll be interesting to see how they setup detours.

Hmm. I don't recall Broadway (at Main) being completely shut down, especially not for 4 months when they put the road deck in. Why would they have to block the entire street to uninstall? And traffic will be detoured around the block. Lol. What block, and how is that going to work? The 99 B line too? This is going to be a mess.

I take it the wider sidewalks are permanent, as per the Broadway Plan. That will be an improvement for the Lee Building, as the arcade area is quite narrow. Would also open up more opportunities for the retail spaces there. Maybe have some patio space in the arcade area. One of Mt Pleasant's nicest buildings.

I'm sure the engineers have thought of this, but does that roof have either a slope or a camber on it, so that rainwater dripping down onto it from the surface can runoff? Otherwise it's just an extra load on the roof and a pretty substantial one at that.

It's hard to tell from this image if the roof is level or not.

It's hard to tell from this image if the roof is level or not.

I doubt it would affect the drainage much to have any slope to the underground station roof. Not sure what's happening with those side walls if those are temporary or not.

Buses will take E 8th, a temporary signal will be installed at Main & 8th.

The Province says it would take 16 months while maintaing traffic vs 8 months with the 4 month closure.

Yeah, that's going to be pretty brutal. I wonder if it will be repeated for the other stations on Broadway. Would it make sense to do them all at the same time? Might be staffing and/or equipment issues trying to do it all at once, mind you.

Precise plans are still being developed for the removal of the traffic decks at the remaining four station sites, with the goal of minimizing both disruptions and the overall construction timeline. The provincial government has not ruled out the possibility of similarly prolonged full closures of select blocks directly above Broadway–City Hall Station, Oak–VG Station, South Granville Station, and Arbutus Station to facilitate deck removal and street restoration.

“We want to take the same approach with each of those different stations. And in each case, we’ll assess the best way to do that in terms of the routing around each of those particular bridge decks around those stations. But the key will be to minimize the closure time,” continued [Mike] Farnworth.

Yeah on the northbound platform they've had some minor caution tape/tarping up with signs talking about the platform expansion being imminent for some time now. At least a few months.

Now that's interesting. I hope they keep the circular cross-section and don't square it off with drywall.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Look at the opening it's perfectly squared off with what looks like mechanical running through the ceiling.
