Still the drivers' fault, people need to start looking in their blind spots.
Unfortunately, I think it's going to take a lot of years and a lot of near misses ( and collisions) before drivers routinely check for bike traffic coming up on their right in that situation. When seeing a cyclist in a bike lane in SJ is a bit like seeing a unicorn people just won't get in the habit any time soon.

The sad thing about automobile-cyclist collisions is that fault is irrelevant. The cyclist always loses.

Seems like about 1/2 the water side of Park Dr and Elizabeth Pkwy has been torn down in the past 10 years or so. Who would have ever though we'd see $1,000,000+ building lots in Saint John? (yeah , I know K Park is Rothesay but you know what I mean)

That's actually quite nice for a contemporary build.

Talking Saint John getting some love on the main forum

Canadian cities that should have been bigger than they actually are?

Which Canadian cities do you think should have become bigger than they actually are, currently?

For me, the three that come to mind are:

1) Winnipeg (of course). Expected to be the Chicago of Canada, the gateway to the West, etc. Was the fourth largest metro in Canada until the mid to late 1970s.
2) Saint John, New Brunswick. The first incorporated city in what is now Canada.
3) Quebec City. One of the oldest European settlements in North America. Until the late 18th century Québec was the most populous city in present-day Canada. Still third largest as of 1901.

An interesting committee of the whole item at tonight's city council meeting. Sale of 609 Millidge Avenue, (former fire station 8), to Somerset Investments Ltd.

That’s the group that built The Vistas.

That is a pretty small lot but interesting nonetheless. I am glad the city is divesting its excess property in favour of development.

On a similar topic, the two lots by Tin Can Beach that Lafford was interested in are still not showing sold on the property assessment tool. The last update we had on that from council was June I think?

I wonder if it fell through or its still in the works.

They should be cutting red tape for Lafford to get those, and rolling out the red carpet for them to build here in SJ. Very interested to hear what Lafford has planned for the Port City.

I would imagine it will be something commercial. This group has done both commercial and residential in the past.

I'm not sure residential would be all that great jammed up against a MacDonald's. I suspect the 24/7 smell from the fryers would get old pretty fast.

I could see it being either a drive thru location. Or maybe. Just maybe. A dollar store!!!!!!!! As they are always popping up.

Obviously it wouldn't be a Mcdonalds, Tim Hortons, Wendys. I'm not sure another starbucks is really needed.

Off the top of my head of random things
- 2nd Arbys
- 2nd Taco Bell
- 3rd Burker King
- Thai Express
- 3rd A&W
- 2nd Harveys?

Yes, I wondered if it might not turn out to be another QSR of some type. We've already got two burger joints on this corner. Maybe subs, pita, pizza or tacos? It would be nice if it was something new to SJ.

They already own lots of land they are supposed to build five “The Vista’s”. But when you read the request for proposals, it’s clear the city wants housing on that lot. There just is a small blurb they’d consider commercial if it fits in with area. But the request scoring system is all basically housing related:

I wonder if 609 Millidge would be torn down or repurposed? For housing it would come down, but you could fit 2-3 commercial units in there easy. It would be preferred to see an entrance across from Troop Street and some coordination with McDonald's and the pharmacy regarding traffic flow. No idea who owns the big chunk of land to its south, which is hilly, rocky, and crisscrossed by transmission lines and IIRC natural gas pipes. Spectrum Enterprises/Quality Concrete?
