Perhaps, this move from Delta may have been influenced by the Tabernacle Choir's recent tour to Lima. We used two chartered Delta planes, and it was a very comfortable flight both ways. Perhaps our upcoming trip to Buenos Aries next month and then Brazil in February will pave the way for additional Delta South America connections? It will be interesting to see.

Gonna go out on a limb and say a one-off charter didn't influence Delta's addition of a daily roundtrip route. Going to stick with the fact that widebodies are more available to try some new routes in the winter months and the cargo loads will help hedge that experiment.

There is now a lot of one-stop connectivity to South America though through Delta's partner LATAM at LIM.

Spirit Airlines pulling out of SLC after this month

“As part of our efforts to transform our business and position Spirit for long-term success, we are adjusting our network to focus on our strongest performing markets. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue service at Albuquerque (ABQ), Birmingham (BHM), Boise (BOI), Chattanooga (CHA), Columbia (CAE), Oakland (OAK), Portland (PDX), Sacramento (SMF), Salt Lake City (SLC), San Diego (SAN) and San Jose (SJC), effective the week of Oct. 2, 2025. Additionally, we are no longer moving forward with plans to launch service at Macon (MCN), which was scheduled to start Oct. 16.

We apologize to our Guests for any inconvenience this may cause and will reach out to those with affected reservations to notify them of their options, including a refund. We are grateful to the airports, business partners and community members in these markets who welcomed and supported us. We remain committed to offering high-value travel options and will continue to serve dozens of destinations throughout the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Spirit’s decision comes nearly a week after the company filed for bankruptcy for the second time within the last 12 months.

I"ll be on this project for the next while.

If you haven't already tried their food, it's amazing!

Delta will bring fancy check-in areas to 2 more hubs by the end of 2025
https://thepointsguy.com/news/delta-air-lines-premium-check-in-hub-airports/

Quote:
...Between now and the end of this year, the Atlanta-based carrier expects to debut new dedicated Delta One check-in areas at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), executives said Thursday.

Up until now, those have been Delta's only two domestic hubs without a specific, set-aside area for customers flying in its nicest cabin.

I couldn’t find any official announcement, but all of the new amenities at the airport opening this month are officially scheduled to open on the 28th.

This includes the 2nd delta sky club, the centurion lounge, 10 more gates, and 6 new restaurants.

I saw mention and press releases citing October, but not the e official date. But can confirm now it is October 28th.

The Salt Lake Airport has opened up 10 new gates and 6 new concessions in Concourse B. The final 11 gates of the concourse will open in one year. At that point, both the A and B concourses will be complete.

Two new restaurants: Aubergine Kitchen and Moab Brewery.

Four new shops: Art of Aesthetics, Good Earth Markets, Utah National Parks, and Hudson.

And two new lounges: Delta Sky Club and AMEX Centurion Lounge.

A 'game-changer'? Delta to open new 48,000-square-foot cargo facility in Utah
https://www.ksl.com/article/51399651/a-g...48000-square-foot-cargo-facility-in-utah

Quote:
SALT LAKE CITY — Delta Air Lines is seeking to go beyond additional passenger travel volume at Utah's largest airport.

The airline announced plans to renovate and modernize a cargo facility at Salt Lake City International Airport, previously occupied by the U.S. Postal Service, through a partnership with the Utah Inland Port Authority and Salt Lake City. The new cargo facility will replace Delta's existing cargo facility and "strengthen" cargo operations, said Peter Penseel, senior vice president of Delta Cargo.

"Transforming the former USPS facility into a modern cargo hub reflects our long-term commitment to Salt Lake City and the role it plays in our global network," Penseel said in a statement.

Renovation work is expected to begin soon, in time for the new 48,000-square-foot facility to open in 2027. It will offer warehouse space, as well as refrigerated storage, a shipping and receiving section, administrative space and a customer lobby area. The refrigeration, officials point out, allows for the transportation of temperature-sensitive goods such as pharmaceuticals and perishables.
I wonder if increased cargo capacity could lead to more international routes?

So, they already opens 10 new gates. 10 more new gates to open up for next year. What is the plan for the next few years to be built new concourse C? But I think Delta hangar will be relocated to the different areas. Whether or not they will be able to build new concourse C. Who knows???

After next year's gates the pace of airport reconstruction will slow considerably. The current airport build out represents the maximum projected demand for the scope of the Airport Master Plan. The idea is that prerequisite projects to further expansion can slowly occur between now and 2052, which is the soonest the airport might reach a traffic level that necessitates more gates.

My only complaint with an otherwise nearly-perfect project?

Flyers should not have to wait unto the 2050s to have the underground train between the A and B gates. They really needed to put in a phased construction plan that has that train now.

Why they didn't do that, beats me.

But otherwise, a nearly-perfect project. Hundreds of people really gave 100% effort to make SLC Airport a model of how to do a terminal rebuild!

I mean, the train is cool, but with the moving sidewalk, what is it, like 3-4 minutes to get through the tunnel? It's no biggie. Am looking forward to the train in the future though

It'd be cool, but very unnecessary for such a short distance. It's like 980 feet or something.

I agree with all of this. I love our new airport! It's got to be one of the top 5 best airports in the country. However, the central tunnel isn't as convenient as I anticipated. Especially when you are traveling with small kids.

It's not the worst thing in the world and the walk isn't that bad compared to the largest airports in this country but it feels like the experience is not what you would expect it to be. When you are moving between concourses like that, you expect there to be a people mover.

I don't think there are any 2 parallel concourse airports with a train between the two. I'm thinking ORD United terminal or Detroit's parallel terminals. 3 parallel concourses or more (like Denver or Atlanta)? Absolutely needed. But totally no need for a train between just 2 concourses. It's not far walk at all. Even with kids, the moving sidewalks get you there plenty fast.

I flew through Detroit earlier this year, and they have a long central tunnel just like ours, that is only a moving walkway.... They do have a train that runs the length of the terminal though, because theirs extends about twice as far in each direction as SLC's.
