How it works, you push it open a bit and the alarm goes off for a set period of time, i think it was 10 seconds.
So we have another "cry wolf" to many times then people wont even bother to check on it when the alarm goes off. I did not see the security guard come running ready to tackle.
So what happens if you "pull" on it?
Presumably nothing, as that's also the entrance.

Just another day in the city:

Daniel Chai
Oct 10 2025, 12:23 pm

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) are searching for a suspect connected to a series of apparent stranger attacks on the seawall this morning that sent several people to the hospital.

VPD officers responded to reports of multiple people being stabbed near David Lam Park shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10.

“Three victims were located and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” said the VPD in a release....

...According to VPD, the suspect is described as an Indigenous woman in her late 20s or early 30s.

She is between 5’3″ and 5’7″, has a slim build, and long dark hair worn in a ponytail....

Suspect would've still been on the loose if they got arrested because the cops would just be like okay here's your court date, see you there, bring this knife as evidence please

In Vancouver I keep my eyes open and head on a swivel everywhere I walk these days, if I see an unhinged lunatic up ahead I change my course to try to avoid.

We need serious changes at the provincial and federal government levels, but why would the feds feel the need to change when the elbows up crowd are so easily manipulated into re-electing them over and over again anyways?

When my best friend lived in Gastown, I kept my head on a swivel walking to his place.

Also we should get rid of elected representatives and have a system where voters can directly represent themselves without having to flip a coin with a person representing an arbitrary geographical area. I really don't see any reason to continue representative democracy, I feel like keeping that around is a relic from the time we sent mail via horseback.

A man accused of assaulting a stranger at the Lonsdale Quay SeaBus terminal and using a torch to burn his face is now facing charges.

The incident happened on Jan. 5, according to Metro Vancouver Transit Police. Just before 11:30 a.m., a stranger tried to follow another man through the fare gates without paying, leading to a confrontation.

Investigators allege the fare evader then sucker-punched the victim from behind several times before “using a torch lighter to burn the side of his face and head,” a release from the Transit Police stated, Thursday.

A SeaBus marine attendant intervened and the suspect fled on foot.

“Although we would never ask that anyone place themselves in harm’s way, we want to acknowledge the attendant’s quick thinking in assisting the man and calling police,” said Const. Amanda Steed, Metro Vancouver Transit Police spokesperson.

The next day, police arrested 30-year-old Kyle Helmut Weber of no fixed address.

After a “lengthy and complex” investigation, the Crown swore charges of assault and assault with a weapon against Weber last week. He is due back in court on Oct. 29.

While out pending his next court appearance, Weber is under orders not to go to the Lonsdale Quay SeaBus Terminal and he must not to possess any incendiary devices or flammable products.

Weber is well known in the North Vancouver Provincial Court where he has faced charges of mischief, theft, assault, assaulting a peace officer, uttering threats, breaching release conditions, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and resisting arrest since 2024.

The city is a war zone. Time to call in the National Guard.

I keep saying that this will result in roving vigilante neighborhood watch groups who do more than call the police if they see something that isn't cool. When that happens, then maybe the people who write the sentences will do something when it comes to repeat offenders.

it maybe happens in a small way with an ethnic group or family(cousins uncles brothers) sticking together to protect themselves, like a thief might not be smart to bother a late night vape shop or they might find themselves in a battle

overall we will never stick together enough in this fragmented society for a solution like this to even be a thing

on another note, I walked by Best Buy this morning and one of the big windows was smashed, it is infuriating, something needs to change, we need more law and order or the quality of all of our lives will decline and more businesses will go away

Cops don't create the laws. Politicians do. Your anger is misplaced. In this entire fiasco cops are the least blameworthy.

Yep, walk by any retail strip and you’re bound to find a smashed window or two, despite the claim that things are getting better.

On that note:
Downtown Vancouver retailers speak out against habitual shoplifter

By Sonia Aslam
Posted October 7, 2025 7:22 am.
Retailers in downtown Vancouver’s Pacific Centre mall are sharing their frustration and safety concerns as they deal with an alleged chronic offender, said to be shoplifting high-end goods.

One retail worker, who wished to remain anonymous, told 1130 NewsRadio that this specific person appears daily, and over the last six months, his behaviour has only gotten worse.…

… Along with other employees, he says he doesn’t feel safe at work.

He says workers at several retailers, in or around the mall, have joined text message groups to help warn each other of the offender’s whereabouts.

“I think everyone is afraid.”
The anonymous worker says stores will close at least one door if the man is on the premises.…

Maybe David Eby and whoever his useless AG is now can explain why this criminal isn’t in jail.

Yeah that's actually how a lot of ethnic street gangs in the US formed, they were immigrants who were being discriminated against and didn't have much in the way of protection, so they took matters into their own hands. If I remember correctly, that's the reason why 18th Street, MS-13, and the Crips formed.

Yeah I know. That's all they are allowed to do, apparently the reason is no more space in the jails.

Agreed. Dozens of mall ninjas "patrolling" the streets sounds even less safe for everybody involved.

Good point

While the Liberals are good at politics they're horrible at governing (especially since Trudeau was elected) but sadly most Canadians either don't notice or don't care

You've obviously never heard of the Guardian Angels although they were around long before the internet

The Guardian Angels haven't existed in Vancouver since 2006, and given the climate, I wouldn't trust any hypothetical successor to not be just another ICE.
