In "Aspen Woods"... I wonder if there are Aspen trees? Looks like they've cut down much of the forest to make way for the subdivision.

There are a few left, enough for bears and cougars to make their way into the neighbourhood every once in a while. But yeah, lots of long time residents are not happy at the loss of trees. If you look on google earth there are a few acreages left in the area that refused to sell to developers.

Bingo. SIGNIFICANT development potential around this former black hole with ~1200-1800 (depending who you ask) units proposed, in permitting or UC around it.

1.8ha

Nice, yeah that was always a dead zone in Edmonton, park space is always a good solution!

Stunning Vancouver shot - who can't love that city?!

Interesting Edmonton park, what's with the giant white ribbon around the middle? I'm not sure about all the pathways as it seems to cut the park's usefulness in half. No one is using the outer edges, perhaps that's on purpose? Because?

Calgary's reconstruction of Central Memorial Park in the beltline triggered a substantial amount of residential development all around it. Hopefully, this park does the same for Edmonton.

For the Edmonton park, what is the purpose of the white ring structure that looks to be a few metres off the ground of the main green space?

Kind of random and underwhelming, tbh. If you're going to block views and add manmade clutter to a park (not that parks are particularly "natural") you think you'd do better that "gas station roof, but there's no roof".

Edit: Oh! Gas Station! Oil and gas country, I get it!.... carry on lol

I get more of a light ribbon in an arena or stadium vibe than a gas station lol, but to each their own. It's just a public art component of a public project, I think it's a neat way to add a little more visual interest to the park.

It's going to generally have a dynamic aurora borealis flowing on it. I'm still divided on whether its neat, art or tacky, but given how dark it is in this part of the world, it will add some much needed light.

Yeah. We've got some light features on the square here and I'm kind of still undecided on them. In the pictures, I am not a fan of the light ribbon, but in person it might be very different.
