Broadway is back to four lanes between Main and Quebec, it had been down to two lanes for about three months for utility work at the lane beside the Lee Building.

These are the ventilation shafts for Arbutus Station! They will connect to two large tunnel ventilation fans, which will help move air through the subway tunnels.

At Broadway-City Hall Station, a crew member prepares rebar for a wall that will support the station’s underground roof.
Below this roof is where elevators, escalators and stairs will be located, connecting the Millennium and Canada lines.

Concrete for these stairs at Mount Pleasant Station was recently poured.
The stairs will connect the ground-level station entrance to the concourse level below. Up and down escalators have now been installed next to the stairs.

I guess they did some airflow modeling and decided they needed the raised roof there since the ventilation fans at Emily Carr are placed there.

South Granville Station


At South Granville Station, crews are constructing the last section of floor for the concourse level.
When the floor is completed, South Granville Station will be connected to the neighbouring building, where there will be an integrated station entrance!

Near GNW-Emily Carr Station, this birds-eye view shows the elevated guideway transitioning to underground tunnel as it approaches the station.
Can you see the tunnel getting wider towards the right? This widening creates space for the centre platform in between the tracks.

Over the last few months, crews have completed a major milestone: track installation is now fully connected from VCC–Clark Station through to Broadway–City Hall Station.

Backfilling has begun at Arbutus Station, the first station on the Broadway Subway Project to reach this milestone.
Backfilling is the process of filling the space between the station roof and the surface with soil. This work will result in
increased trucking activity, some traffic impacts, and intermittent noise as material is delivered into the excavation,
moved into place and then compacted.

• Backfilling activities will take place between Maple and Cypress streets.
• The first phase of backfilling is expected to continue through October and is weather
dependent. Additional phases of backfilling will continue after permanent utility work is
completed.
• Intermittent elevated noise related to delivery, moving, and compacting of material, and related
activities.
• Dust mitigation measures will be implemented throughout the work.
• Approximately 12,000 cubic meters of soil will be placed, enough to fill five Olympic-sized
swimming pools.

I'll be glad when the entire corridor has returned to normal. They've done a pretty good job of keeping traffic flowing and businesses open, but I always get flummoxed by which of the adjoining streets are closed. I don't travel there often enough to remember, but I do travel there often enough to be annoyed.

I do wonder if Vancouver should just bite the bullet and forgo the station boxes for the next phase (whenever that happens). Arbutus-UBC isn't as busy, nor as critical.

Are you suggesting no stations between Arbutus and UBC? 'Cause I certainly don't think that's such a good idea. The construction is annoying, but being glad that it's over doesn't mean that I think it was the wrong thing to do.

Inside Arbutus Station, crews are building the concrete base for the SkyTrain tracks.

Next, workers will install metal fasteners on the completed concrete base, which will hold the rail in place.

Sorry, typo: station decks. A large part of the delay seems to have been the challenge of keeping Broadway open during construction... and it hasn't helped traffic or local businesses as much as we thought.

Macdonald maybe, but Alma's not so critical that we can't "just" close it off to non-bus traffic and call it a day.

So are you suggesting that we should just close down the street where station construction is occurring? I actually think the Broadway construction has been reasonably successful compared to what Cambie experienced from Broadway to King Edward during the construction of the Canada Line. Of course what we have on Broadway is worse than it was before construction started, but I don't see how you can avoid some impact.
