cool shots, Niwell.

The view from the Toronto Islands was once my favorite, but now I prefer shots from the back (northeast or northwest), as these vantage points showcase the layers far better.

It's true that it isn't the only view but I disagree with the idea that it's just one of many rather than having any special importance. It's one of, if not the, most important. There's a reason they call it the "postcard view". Skyline views framed by water are among the most popular in any city that has one since people find that photogenic and it's easier to see it unobstructed since you're not dealing with street level buildings and trees obstructing it. And in this case it's disproportionately seen by visitors because of the popularity of the ferries, water taxis, harbour cruises and islands.

Great shot Niwell. An angle I haven't seen often.

This angle doesn't show off the height as much as some other angles, but you get a good look at just how large the skyline is.

It looks much taller in person but unfortunately the wide angle lens of phones makes things look smaller. Next time I go I'll dig out my old DSLR! But yeah, the Financial District is at a slightly lower elevation than the Yonge/Bloor cluster, and it's about 6km in a straight line to King/Bay from that balcony.

Another beauty showing the massiveness of Toronto's skyline.

Ah of course. That makes sense.

What a great angle though, It's one of my new favorite angles of Toronto.

Toronto's skyline is now pretty much every other city in the country combined!

The shot posted by MolsonE is one of the best skyline shots I have seen of T.O., encompassing almost everything from Bloor on down, at least from the east. Only things missing in that shot are West Downtown and Humber Bay Shores, the latter of which is still awaiting the addition of a substantial development of towers that will result in a massive, extremely dense skyline all on its own. That is assuming it eventually moves forward, which is certainly not a sure thing.

Yeah, great shots Niwell. The views from the northwest and north have always been favourites of Toronto - you can see the length & buildup of the skyline, the older bank towers are still prominent, there's a nice urban low-rise foreground, and you can't see the East End's uglies.

That new cluster of towers at Bloor & Dufferin is having quite an impact too - especially from street level. I was surprised when I popped out of Ossington station the other day at just at just how much they loom over the neighbourhood. Not a complaint either - it helps to enclose the space and add a new focal point. Just as long as the towers stick to the Duff Mall area and don't start encroaching on Bloor's commercial buildings.

Another shot that really captures the overall size of Toronto's skyline.

Calgary skyline shot from Bridgeland. Doesn't capture much of the skyline, but the sky is dramatic.

Great Calgary shot, Telus Sky looks great, easily one of the most interesting skyscrapers in the country. (It's inverted Vancouver twin is #1 in my book)

There's been a lot of discussion around Toronto vs Chicago skyline wise. 20 years ago - even 10 years ago - that would have been unthinkable, but Toronto's flying. If you took either the John Hancock or the Willis tower and moved it to Toronto, it would tip the scales and take a way a lot of room for debate.

This is a neat one because it contains none of the downtown itself, nor any of Dartmouth (which has been filling up recently and creating a modest but legitimate secondary skyline across the harbour). Instead it’s facing outward, away from the traditional core. It demonstrates a bit how the city is developing a sort of 360-degree skyline from certain vantage points, with high-rise nodes popping up well beyond downtown.
