Good news. I cant access the link due to paywall and cant get around it at this moment.

IIRC this project isn't on the priority list. It was 59 twinning to steinbach area.

The concept here would be pretty simple. New lanes to the east of existing. West side would work too fairly easily. Actually looking at the poweine routing it might go from east side to west side through town. Probably an urbanized section of road the Scanterbury.

Good morning! Has there been any news on the symington overpass east of 59? It says it’s supposed to start winter 2025 but I don’t recall any announcements regarding this or the desired alignment.

Crickets. Another very expensive project.

Seems a lot of projects that were scheduled to come to fruition around now have silently missed their start dates…..

DAE think a realignment of 59 on the old rail bed would be a good idea?

Using the MB Property assessment page, the current PTH 59 ROW is about 85m wide, and the rail line is 60-65m wide. There must've been a rail yard or station where Bear and Lynx run parallel and there is a bit more ROW (~114m) for that short bit.

So I don't think it would be worth the hassle and extra cost to run the highway out of it's current alignment, only to need to purchase even more land from Brokenhead than the current alignment requires, running the highway closer to more residential than currently, and when the town's highway related services are already on the current alignment

The twinned portion has a right of way of 130m. vs the row through brokenhead is like 60m. All of the non twinned section is 60m. I dont know if diverting the highway through the residential portion is any better. They'll need to acquire property through brokenhead for the twinning. It'll just be a tighter section through the townsite. I dont expect a freeway, as we all know.

In general on a lot of these projects we've been waiting to hear about. Nothing has come out publicly. But I would think there's motion in the background.

For example, the latest PTH 1 east twinning in the Whiteshell. Engagement phase 2b was done and we saw the boards and proposed routes. But nothing has been posted to the project information website. Which is odd. But for the other stuff, like Fermor Symington overpass, there must be stuff going on in the background.

Can I add PTH101 to that list. I have lost track where that is at, it’s been awhile since there was an update, unless I missed something from MTI.

https://engagemb.ca/pth101

The last public engagement and survey was earlier this year. They've presented their final design options (you can see them at that link) and if they follow the same process they did for PTH 100, they'll just put a bow on it by submitting a formalized report with everything.

There isn't much to wait on for this study, all of it is effectively out and presented. To me, I think it just means that 101 upgrades will now be in the mix for consideration with 100, which are the only intersection upgrades we've been promised so far.

With 101 we're now in the waiting for priority and funding timeline. Same story though, crickets. Usually we'd here something around the time of provincial budgets or when they release the tender schedule. IIRC there were projects on the books for the red river bridge on both the north and south perimeter.

A lot of what was identified in MTI’s 5 year capital plan seems, based on what’s publicly available, to be going nowhere fast. Given the state of the provincial deficit you have to fear the worst. And yet, they’re now working on designs for projects that weren’t in the plan at all, so…

They can add to the plan if they want. But id bet if anything did come along for 101, its been beyond the 5 year plan anyways.

It does talk about the Perimeter freeway winnipeg 1 million thing in the plan. Which is 101.

After McGillivray and St Anne's/CPR Emerson, there are probably 12 key projects that need to happen to make the Perimeter passable safety-wise, and that's still a long way off from it being a freeway. Clockwise from south:

1. Kenaston/Waverley interchange
2. 330 interchange
3. Wilkes ramp reconfiguration
4. Portage cloverleaf reconfiguration
5. Rosser Rd. ramp reconfiguration
6. PTH 6 interchange
7. Pipeline Interchange
8. Red River Crossing lane addition, C/D lanes, Main St Interchange reconfiguration (all 1 project most likely)
9. Wenzel road interchange
10. Gunn Rd. interchange
11. Dugald interchange and Rail line overpass combo
12. Pembina interchange reconfiguration

At 1 major project every ~4 years like they're showing with St Mary's, McGillivray, and St Anne's , we're looking at nearly 50 years before the major safety issues with current traffic numbers are addressed. Nevermind new ones that might come up with further growth in the CMA. Well past the point where the CMA and Winnipeg proper will have both surpassed 1 million residents.

I would think you have that about right in regards to Kenaston being the next after St. Anne's.

Hoping they can bring 101 projects online at the same time as 100 projects. Stagger them every 2-3 years. So you'd have 2 projects on the go at the same time. And just keep going forever.

I am under the impression in my conversations with MTI that Kenaston and the Perimeter is down the list quite a bit. It won't get done until the St Norbert bypass is funded...a ways off.

My understanding is after McGillivray it will be St Annes, then the River crossing. After that my bet would be Pipeline in the north. It should probably be accelerated with all of the accidents and injuries that occur there.

Then it would be anyone's guess. Hwy 330 or the mega project of the Main/Red River Henderson cluster 🞵🞵🞵🞵.

My list wasn't a prioritized list, which has been debated on the Perimeter Highway page a few times. I just went clockwise from the southmost point listing the major issues (IMO) that the Province hasn't yet announced.

The current Kenaston / Waverley set-up it not ideal. They should've at least just re-aligned the small portion of Waverley south of 100 to make it one intersection instead of two.

I wonder why Kenaston is lower priority.

I think it is because it is the newest intersection on the Perimeter, and it is optimized as far as how safe an at grade intersection can be (what they would say).

Also, I don't think they want to build an interchange for essentially a road to no where. They want to do it in conjunction with the St Norbert by-pass.

It should have been built when they built the Kenaston extension. Much like how they built Centreport and it's connection to the Perimeter where the Headingley Bypass will eventually go. The kicker there was there was a lot of Federal money involved in Centreport construction (if I recall).

I’ve heard the ‘road to nowhere’ concern with Kenaston too but it doesn’t make much sense to me. If they connected it to Waverley south of the Perimeter for the time being it would service at least as much population south of the Perimeter than St Annes currently does. That and it would remove two sets of lights.
