Thanks for the pics. I haven’t seen this in person for a while, it looks good. For a Salvation Army building it can’t be beat. The only thing I would’ve done differently was choose a different brick color, but outside of that, it’s well done.

Art deco-wise, the window bays and concrete/limestone-look base remind me of the William Farrell Building before renos:

Kind of, but it had a concrete render over the brickwork, so it would look very different if the double glazed glass screen was removed. Once Telus sold it, years ago, it stopped being called the William Farrell Building - Avigilon (now part of Motorola) bought it, did more upgrades, and sold it to GWL in 2018. It's now 555 Robson.

It's also a shame that Telus let the new facade fall into disrepair.
There is an array of colour-changing spotlights in the second skin that shines inward towards the old building.
Avigilon / GWL probably doesn't even know it's there.

Cultural Amenity Space replaced with residential/retail and $8.7 million CAC.

1290 Hornby St and 889 Drake St text amendment

The City of Vancouver has received an application to amend the CD-1 (892) (Comprehensive Development) District By-law. The amendment includes:

Removal of the Cultural Amenity Space;
Increase in Floor Space Ratio (FSR) from 11.96 to 12.84;
Addition of 14 strata units for a total of 225 units; and
258 sq. m. of new commercial space on the ground floor;

I believe 55 Hastings became 388 abbott, which is the one submitted for rezoning last month. This is the site

The material on site is the demolition rubble from the adjacent site to the east, 55 West Hastings which has an approved 32 unit rental building. Presumably Holborn have leased their site to allow the demolition company to sort the materials from the old Model Express building.

388 Abbott used to be adressed as 95 West Hastings.

Nope, 55 W Hastings is going ahead as planned and isn't part of the 388 Abbott proposal.

Construction building permit for 55 W Hastings was submitted this past week.

388 Abbott doesn't include 55 West Hastings in the thumbnail for their building rendering animation but it's included in the actual video
