Austin Oyster Co is going up quick at Cesar Chavez and Pedernales. It's supposed to open later this year.

Aside from the ongoing influx of NameTM-backed concepts coming into town, I'm torn about whether this is the best use of the space or not.

On one hand, it's frustrating that this makes us 1-3 on food hall proposals, and sees a space that would have potentially housed local spots become one massive space for an outside brand.

On the other hand, the club itself in Nashville is interesting, featuring a nice restaurant with a small stage and a "honky tonk" bar(which feels like they're playing fast and loose with that term). That's something I think the old post office could do well with, and we can always use more space for music in this city.

I have to assume the initially pitched food hall concept wasn't catching on, but I thought it would be cool to enhance that part of downtown with more casual food options.

What are y'alls thoughts?

I would have preferred the food hall with a bunch of local businesses. But, what I want may not align with what most other people want. I imagine that this place will bring more foot traffic than the food hall would have. So it may prove to be the better option in the long run.

Thank you and that's true. It can also always be repurposed down the road. I'll take it as a win that the space wasn't quietly turned into a private/office amenity.

First look: Inside The Twelve Thirty Club coming to Austin
Sam Fox, Justin Timberlake and team to pour $30M into restaurant and club

https://www.bizjournals.com/austin/n...imberlake.html

The 110-year-old post office building in downtown Austin, boasting large white columns in a sea of glass towers, will be transformed into a multi-level upscale restaurant and entertainment venue by Sam Fox and Justin Timberlake — and new details are out.

On Oct. 30, the Austin Business Journal reported that The Twelve Thirty Club will move into the 210 W. Sixth St. building. Fox, behind Author & Edit Hospitality, has once again partnered with Justin Timberlake to open a second location of The Twelve Thirty Club. The original club opened in 2021 in Nashville's Upper Broadway.

Opening a restaurant in downtown Austin can take millions of dollars, but this project is bringing it to a new level with its $30 million buildout of the space. The approximately 35,000-square-foot spot is slated to open in late 2027, with construction set to begin in early 2026. It will be larger than the Nashville location by 10,000 square feet.

AvroKO, the designer behind the club's Nashville location, was also tapped for the Austin project.

The four-story club will be set across four levels: the main level will be The Supper Club, an all day dining and entertainment hub; down a hidden stairway will be a late night Speakeasy; the second level will be the Honorary Member private club; above the Honorary Member floor is a private event space that can host up to 80 guests for bespoke dinners, cocktail receptions and celebrations. The upper floors draw on the tradition of supper clubs as private establishments where members can access a private lounge, VIP priority reservations, invitations to members-only chef dinners, wine events and other gatherings — with an exclusive terrace overlooking the Supper Club that offers a special viewing for any shows.

"After what we created in Nashville, I’m thrilled to be bringing The Twelve Thirty Club to Austin,” Timberlake said in a statement. “This city truly gets live music, and getting to restore the soul of such an iconic building while working with Sam again is incredible. We’re being intentional with how the space carries sound across every level, because how music lives in the room is just as important as the design. We’re creating a space that people will want to experience again and again."

The Twelve Thirty Club’s Austin menu will take cues from Nashville’s location, but Austin will have exclusive dishes and cocktails inspired by the city. The original location offers items such as oysters, shrimp cocktails, Maine lobster, steak varietals, salads and more.

I'm disappointed it won't be a food hall either and that food halls don't do well in Austin. I go to Fareground and it seems to be busier these days though I don't know if it's enough.

I'll check out 12:30 club but it certainly won't be a regular spot for me the way a food hall would be.

let's be real - Fareground feels like a mall food court. I don't agree that food halls don't do well here. The issue is we don't have a great food hall for folks to visit currently.

Sadly, Vespaio announced via Insta that they will be closing. No word if they relocate, sure hope they do. I plan to drop by later tonight to find out what's going on.

I don't think it's that specific retailer, c-store is just common shorthand for convenience store. Always good to get more and cheaper retail downtown in any case
