Personally, I too have never quite understood the appeal of Ferris wheels in urban settings. They strike me as more carnival attraction than civic contribution—an spectacle that is unable to speak to the soul of any great city.
When I walk through a public space, I want to feel a sense of place—something rooted in the local culture, history, or landscape. A Ferris wheel, no matter how flashy or tall, often feels like a placeholder for something more meaningful. It takes up valuable space without giving much back.
I’d rather see public art or architecture that tells a story—something that invites people in, reflects the city’s character, and adds lasting value.
