Canada Place is the logical location. I hope it goes through. I would definitely ride it with my family when we visit.

Montreal is 60m, tallest in Canada. Maybe they want to go bigger to get the tallest title?

If it was actually on the Canada Place pier, would it even need any approval from the City? I guess it could be a courtesy thing to meet Councillors Klassen and Dominato, but ultimately Federal and Provincial projects on their own land don't have to get a City permit. It's why there are big electronic screens on BC Place and why the new Armed Forces building in Kitsilano were built without City approval.

The city has no jurisdiction but I think there's some history where they tried to include COV planning into central port land projects.

Here's how they built the structure for the Seattle wheel

https://www.mansonconstruction.com/marine-construction-1/projects_mc_20

If it's not practical to build it into the center of the terminal expansion section maybe they could slightly widen the terminal to one side.

Noting, of course, that Canada Place is several floors higher.

There does appear to be room out by the SeaBus. Alternatively, the Coal Harbour dock?

I'm guessing they would try to avoid placing too much impact on a neighbouring tower (hotel/residential).

Where they want the floating hotel would probably make for a better spot for the wheel if it sort of stuck out next to the public art on that corner.

I guess we can watch if Pursuit Attractions (operator of Flyover Canada) hints at any new projects.

That would be a good place - it would draw more people westwards along the seawall.

And Granville Island's not busy already?!

The Coal Harbour idea is better as that's a dead zone but I'm sure the condo owners (if they actually live there) would push back.

Two birds, one attraction - the wheel doubles as the long-discussed elevator from the bridge to Granville Island...

At last check, CMHC wants to increase foot traffic in order to increase revenue. It'd be something else to do once the Public Market closes early.

They need $300 million to just fix their buildings/infrastructure with no revenue model. Seems a bit premature to worry about their foot traffic.

That's the problem - 100% of the current rents subsidize the arts facilities, so CMHC can only cover the maintenance through more visitors/tenants/etc or a government grant.

Madison Pacific Properties was meeting councillors about one of their projects. Assume it's a Broadway Plan property in their portfolio. Or might be one of their two Yaletown brick office blocks.

Some more members of council were briefed on the Great Vancouver Wheel (observation/ferris wheel) project at Canada Place last month. I'm pretty sure we'll see this announced before the end of the year.

Am I the only one who finds these ferris wheels are tacky and now a generic feature in every city.. London, Dubai, Seattle, Niagara Falls, Gold Coast (the list goes on)..

edit: if we need one I wish it was at lonsdale quay.
