Another lovely day in Ottawa.

Couple things jump out: Restaurants are short-staffed. I've never waited so long for a coffee. Security officers are exceptionally friendly. At the conference I'm attending, audience questions. Wow. Mainlanders give a 2-3 minute preamble all about themselves. I couldn't even tell you what the question was in the end, but the presenters seem to understand

Mentioned to my boss and he said he had the same impression. It's so quiet at night. No yelling or sirens like home. I understand they're not impressed with transit here but it's great to me.

The warmspot was Warfield, BC at 31.8C.

Warmest low was Western Island, ON at 18.5C.

Lachine Canal! Scrolling down came to this picture and that feeling, in my chest, sinking feeling of home sickness.
I pretty sure or know that ships dont use it anymore? but do all the gates still operate? I might be completly wrong of its use in the 21st century.

It has been used for leisure craft since 2002. In the summer you see lots of little pleasure boats going down the canal, plus kayakers, paddle boarders, etc. All the locks still work. In the winter the water levels are lowered so it freezes over (but apparently not hard enough to allow skating like in Ottawa).

20C and sunny. Cooler day after the cold front went through. Barely any clouds with it.

Low of 11C this morning.

The warmspot was Nelson, BC at 31.9C. Only station above 30C. How is this heat wave still going is insane. I cannot believe this. 10 degrees anomalies for weeks now.

Warmest low was Windsor, ON at 16.8C

Yep, anomalies close to 8-9C so far this month in the Interior.

I went to the Starbucks on Elgin last weekend and there were 5 baristas waiting on me to take my order. I think there were maybe 3 customers in the entire place. Definitely an anomaly.

Won't be long until skating is a thing of the past here. A couple of years ago it didn't even open.

What's the plant in the picture with the red leaves? That's hilariously the best shot of it I could get. It's probably invasive as it's definitely a ditch plant. Lovely green leaves that turn blood red on the bottom fronds first.

Also, I was just clicking pics every time I saw red trying to get a shot of it. I could do a photo post of all fall colours from Ottawa that gives a completely inaccurate impression of the relatively low percentage of fall colours

Beautiful fall day. Sunny and 13 at just before noon. Maybe a hair cool, but the sunshine is beautiful.

Leaves are starting to change. The red maples in my yard are starting to turn red, and a bunch of the norway maples in the neighbourhood are showing some dull red patches as well.

As a part of a neighbourhood shared path upgrade over the past few years, the city planted a bunch of young red maple varietals (not sure what they are), but they've only been in the ground 1-2 years. The heat and drought did a number on them this year, they've been in full fall colours since early August. Very beautiful red.

We have been absolutely spoiled this September, really its just been a continuation of August and this week we should be basking in more sunshine and upper 20s.

Golf season is still in full swing with some of the best conditions of the season right now. Here is an early morning shot from the Okanagan Golf Club, Bear course yesterday.

It got up to 17C in Moncton today, with brilliant sunshine.

A perfect fall day for high school football. Moncton High at Tantramar Regional High in Sackville, NB. My son is a coach on the MHS team, and they won 21-15, despite the best and most determined efforts of the officiating staff to hand the game to the Tantramar Titans on a silver platter. I have never seen such biased officiating in my entire life!!!

The timekeepers were in on it too. Every time the Titans had the football, they either forgot to start the clock, or delayed starting the clock. The MHS parents were getting into shouting matched with the timekeepers at a couple of points.

I wish this was a one-off, but, my three sons have played a variety of sports (hockey, lacrosse and football) against Sackville teams in Sackville, and, cheating was rampant, no matter the sport, and, the officiating universally horrible. I don't know how they get away with it!!!

Anyway, I needed a stiff drink when I got home to settle my nerves. My son (the coach) was just pleased that they won, and, the manner of their victory (an interception on our 20 yard line in the dying seconds).

17C and sunny. Chilly. Thankfully a one off.

Low of 6C this morning. Definitely a cold one. Downtown Montreal dipped below 10C (8C low) for the first time since last spring.

The warmspot was Masinasin, AB at 32.2C. 3 different provinces with above 30C temperatures. Also all 20 daily warmspots have hit that milestone this month. This is remarkable.

Warmest low was Lytton, BC at 17.1C.
