I don't know what these two were doing in this empty parking lot on a Saturday afternoon, but I am sure it was something shady.

I've always thought that the city needs to address Rue Saint-Paul with some landscaping planters and flower beds. They have plenty of room to widen the sidewalk on the north side. That 2 lane road is surprisingly wide and could use a bit of narrowing. Except for the section directly behind Bonsecours Market where the road is cobble stoned and has trees along the sidewalks. Small easy enhancements

Similar areas in Toronto and Hamilton have been, or are in the process of being, redeveloped.

Lowertown is a mix of late 19th, early 20th Century, and a bunch of 1960s/70s urban renewals gone wrong (what 60s/70s urban renewal didn't go wrong?). OCH has been redeveloping some of its urban renewal era housing on Gladstone/Rochester area, and they have one tower proposal in that frame. It's not impossible to think they might do a larger redevelopment of their holdings in this area once they've completed their many ongoing projects.

This is kind of what I meant. I don't have time to tweak it. The road should have been reduced 25% in width, adding that new extra space to the sidewalk, so add about 5 ft to the right side of the planters and then shift the planters over to the edge of the road, creating a wider sidewalk for pedestrians. Also, I wouldn't use maples, but maybe Mountain Ashes that don't grow too large. ( Ignore the planters on the right side, they are not supposed to be there.

But that said, the sheer volume and pace of places like Toronto/GTA and Vancouver/Lower Mainland means you don't get to enjoy a narrower portfolio of buildings being erected/developed the way Calgary (and Edmonton) do. Those buildings just mean more and feel more central to the emergence of big city culture in smaller markets.

Moreso, I love watching stuff going up in smaller metro areas like Saskatoon / Winnipeg / Ottawa / Kitchener / Hamilton / Quebec City /Halifax. That might be the best part of these types of threads is watching things you don't normally get alot of exposure to from locals and urban enthusiasts who care.

Toronto is well on its way to becoming a megacity!

Agreed. Looks really nice, but there's no way a wheel chair fits between the lamppost and the planter.

There is an easy fix for that, just do what city council would propose and pass before the angry mob come with their opposition to it,
remove all street parking, winding walkway and add a bike path, that's what they do in Vancouver...Yes, Vancouver again.

It might be practical to reduce the road lane width a bit but that road needs loading areas due to all the tour buses and coaches that stop there. You can even see that int he first image that Molson quoted a few posts ago.

Roughly 70km away, You can see how from One Bloor to the CN Tower how the land slopes to the lake.
