Is there a long term plan to redevelop this area? If I'm not mistaken, that's mostly a postwar housing project made up of wood-framed townhouses. They really have to be showing their age at this point, especially since these places weren't built with quality in mind.

Similar areas in Toronto and Hamilton have been, or are in the process of being, redeveloped.

Ottawa doing it's best KW impersonation in those pics. It needs a couple of iconic table top breakers. ... a little salt for seasoning...sheesh. It's a good thing the parliament buildings and chateau Laurier are there because otherwise... lackluster. The two new residential twin towers though seem to be of good quality which I'm glad to see.

Per capita BC is the least represented province in the national section. Most of the Vancouver posters avoid it like the plague.

Nice Ottawa pics, fantastic Montreal shots!

Hey, like Oprah once said - everyone can win at the layers game! You get a layer award, you, and you too!

Montreal in terms of architecture wins this going away plus they do have some nice elevated terrain and the St. Lawrence.

Overall it's between Vancouver and Montreal with Toronto not far off. Vancouver because on a good day in a lot of locations you get views to American peaks, all the local mountains, ocean, river, layers of snow on the mountains for a chunk of the year, plus multiple skylines and varying layers of buildings and density even if that's not as impressive as older cities. As with the Montreal shots this is an aerial view, but you can much of that at ground level as well:

I am a former Calgarian/Edmontonian now living in Toronto, and I loved watching the buildings go up in both those cities.

The pace of development building in Toronto is jaw-dropping and extremely fun to watch as Toronto becomes one of the biggest and most poignant skylines in North America, and quickly around the world.

But that said, the sheer volume and pace of places like Toronto/GTA and Vancouver/Lower Mainland means you don't get to enjoy a narrower portfolio of buildings being erected/developed the way Calgary (and Edmonton) do. Those buildings just mean more and feel more central to the emergence of big city culture in smaller markets.

Moreso, I love watching stuff going up in smaller metro areas like Saskatoon / Winnipeg / Ottawa / Kitchener / Hamilton / Quebec City /Halifax. That might be the best part of these types of threads is watching things you don't normally get alot of exposure to from locals and urban enthusiasts who care.
