This passed at tonight's PC meeting. Where are you getting the 950 RUs info? This project (actually four projects in one) is a convoluted zoning mess, and it's hard to figure out what is actually happening.

I would have expected this to have more NA opposition, but the developer, NA & PC staff worked things out before the vote. But the height limits are still confusing - anywhere from 45' to 120' - depending on the tract and development bonuses.

Bar owners plan for next phase of Rainey Street with new concept - Investors wanted as Palace Laundry aims for late 2025 opening

As construction projects inch toward completion in downtown's Rainey Street District, some longtime bar owners and operators are raising funds for a new concept in the entertainment area.

Palace Laundry, a bar they plan to open at 96 Rainey St., is co-owned by Jason Steward, Nick Adams, Sean Fric, Troy Cramer and Benjamin Cantu. The group has raised more than $1 million in about two weeks and has a goal of $3.5 million — the total cost needed to open Palace Laundry.

The bar will have daytime and nighttime hours, with live music, happy hours and DJs at various times.

Construction on the 5,500-square-foot Palace Laundry is slated to start before the end of the year, Steward said, with the aim of opening by the end of next year. The bar will open in place of Placeholder and Alibi. The general contractor on the project is HC Construction.

“There’s definitely going to be ... this mid-century/retro kind of feel to the place, as if you're kind of hanging out in the Uptown London or New York living room with kind of a loungey and established feeling," Adams said. "We really want to stay sophisticated, but also approachable.”

Really,.... Is that what ths State of Texas calls that tiny bit of land? What am I missing?

I got curious, and a bit of googling found this claim that

"In 1935, the Legislature transferred the portion of Camp Mabry east of the railroad track to the Highway Department, which had begun using part of the area for equipment maintenance as early the mid-1920s. Known as Camp Hubbard, named for former highway commissioner R.M. Hubbard, this area now is used by TxDOT for various purposes, most notably as the headquarters of the Vehicle Titles Division in the five-story Building # 1, built in 1955. "

A permit was filed today for the following at Symphony Square - but I don't know how it could be related to soil testing at the Waller:

"An amendment to the license agreement, LA# 1233-1910, is needed due to an inspection being carried out on the project site. The amended items consist of adding rock gravel for landscaped areas, lighting within tree grates, metal planters with landscaping, and curb improvement at the corner of Red River Street and East 12 Street. The wood decking and pavers were not installed and will be removed from the improvements list. The corner curb improvement at Red River and E. 12th Street was reviewed and approved within an SDP correction during construction."

On the KXAN webcam view of downtown now there is a large crane lifting significant objects which looks to be for Capitol Tower possibly? I know this building had lobby and rooftop renovations done at some point. Tough to tell from this view but something is going in the area.

I am a commercial tenant at the building across the street. The crane is there to raise something onto the roof of that building. Was disappointed it wasn't anything too exciting.

There are a couple dozen permits for some interior demo and remodeling incuding: "ADDING OCCUPIED SPACE ON ROOF FOR RELAXING, TWO CANOPIES."
