It's still amazing that Toronto's current city hall was completed 60 years ago. It was way ahead of its time when construction started at the end of 1961.

Yep it's a classic. I wish the Calgary City hall was built at a time when architecture mattered - either back then or more recently.

If you're talking about the Calgary Municipal Building, that's a Postmodern masterpiece in my opinion. I have always loved it's massing and it's mix of exterior Postmodernism and interior Brutalism.

Yeah, I was so glad to visit Toronto City Hall for DoorsOpen this year, it was such a nice experience to see the interiors there.
I have heard about how unique Calary's city hall is, that place seems really interesting from a design point of view.

Anyways, I took these a few hours ago while out in my favourite park, looking at my local skyline of Yonge and Eglinton (the middle of Toronto):

Calgary's municipal building has a few decent parts (the general stepped massing), but the way it meets the street is cold and hostile, especially on the east side. Good from afar, but far from good. The historic City Hall is a gem, especially since it's extensive renovation a few years ago...

Both Waterloo and Kitchener were in Waterloo Township in the County of Waterloo, now the Region of Waterloo. The name "Waterloo" has an obvious origin and its use predates "Kitchener" by a century. Today, references to "Waterloo" are at least as likey to mean the Region as the City.
