Lots of people are thrilled, lots of people are disappointed. I'm somewhere in the middle. I think it's a fair play.

If he performs poorly he'll get benched and won't get paid as much. We need a C that can play on the 3rd line as Lowry will most likely be out until November. Who knows if he replaces Barron at 4C when that happens. If he plays well, we pay him his bonuses that don't count towards the cap next year. Cap is going up anyways. Even with this signing, we have ~22m in space.

With Yager coming into the fold and potentially being our next 2C we try and develop, Toews would be an excellent role model.

Jets have lacked a true faceoff afficionado for some time now - Toews went nearly 65% on the dot in his last (shitty) year in Chicago which is insane. He was on a sinking team, and with his play style, he had to play defence first.. Chicago was 5th in goals allowed that year. So, going from that team to our team with a B2B Vezina winning goalie, and B2B Jennings trophies, I think it will allow him to play into his style a bit more. He's always been a great 2 way player but I think he will be decent. He'll probably be more productive than Tanev and Appleton combined. And for that cap hit, it wont be a bad deal.

He's also competitive. Someone like him isn't going to go for a victory lap if theres the potential to tarnish his image. He must feel pretty good about his condition, and I'm sure Cheveldayoff has done his due diligence in looking into how he might be able to perform. One other thing - the Toews jerseys are going to fly off the shelves, and I'm sure attendance/hype will be at an all time high.

If he turns out to be an Appleton or Barron replacement that will be a very expensive third or fourth line player.

People seems to think the jets just signed 2015 Toews.

I worry about the sideshow he will create.

If he is one of a few signings that include Ehlers or his replacement and a real 2c then it’s fine. If the hope is that he is going fill their top 6 needs then this is bad.

I thought jets were signing a 4C Toews. But those dollars seem to expect alot more.

But IMO you can't really look at his production for the last season or whatever. He wa sick want he? Hence the hiatus.

The details of his contract are the sole reason why you and many others have concerns, which are frankly, valid.

None of us know the real state of his abilities on ice other than the very select few, including JT.

He will fit right in at the bottom 6. With Adam Lowry expected to be away for at least a couple months when the new season starts later this year, he will fill in the 3rd line centreman role just fine.

Then again, who knows what Arnie has in store, along with when Free Agency gets underway in a couple weeks.

With that said, I'm excited, but also cautious. I don't want to overhype his NHL comeback, but man, coming home to play for at least one more year with your hometown team is truly a special thing, especially when they have a very good shot of going very deep in the playoffs.

Apparently, he had long COVID, and went through various different medical treatments, as well as non-traditional methods of treatments to get back into form.

I think the Toews signing is good, considering it's only a one year/ $2 million, lcaed with incentives of up to $5 million if he is healthy and the Jets win the cup.

What is more concerning, is that the Jets stated signing Toews was a "priority."

Jets home opener vs Dallas is 2 months away. With single game tickets now on sale, I checked into this game. It seems nearly sold out already if ticketmasters map is accurate. I am not including the verified resale tickets.

Basically sold out already. They'll release a bunch of tickets closer to the date when they get all their teams/groups figured out. There's always loads of seats in the upper deck corners that come up.

In general though, I skimmed a few games and tickets sales look to be pretty good.

Still waiting for that 2C trade to drop lol

If they don't get Kyle Connor signed to a long-term extension I will consider the off-season a failure by Chevy and Mark Chipman. UFA next year, just like Ehlers and if he doesn't sign before the season starts, he likely won't during the season...which likely means he is gone next year.

Getting slightly concerned about that. Apparently there's nothing to worry about according to the insidr sources. Would like to see a joint kyle connor, Adam Lowry signing. Just like the scheif, helle signing.

I'm not too worried about KFC NOT re-signing with us. Chevy will put a deal together for him, and as far as I know, Connor seems committed to stay with Winnipeg long term.

Connor could get 10 M easily.

Is Lowry's fiancée from MB?

I am not too concerned about getting Connor signed. My belief and from what I heard is the Jets weren't super aggressive with the Ehlers signing because they new Connor was the priority. My bet would be that he gets just north of $10m.

They could have both ehlers and connor. The salary cap is going way up. If salary became a crunch, they need to dump the numerous 2m-3m salaries for those 3rd and 4th liners to make it work.

The ehlers situation is dissapointing. But if it truly was him wanting a fresh start then so be it. The Jets cant seem to attract any good top 6 talent so retaining what they have is crucial. Losing ehlers regardless of opinions, they cant replace him.

Losing Connor would be a disaster.

You and I both knew that there were rumours swirling around Ehlers for at least a year. Perhaps much longer than that.

It is disappointing, but the production he has had the last couple of years, along with some injuries he has had, was very difficult to justify for the small market that we are.

We are our own worst enemy sometimes.

I believe it was said by both the Jets and Ehlers that the Jets offer was more than the Carolina offer. Ehlers just wanted a change of scenery which, he earned by coming a free agent. The Jets did all they could with out grossly overpaying for him which was the right move considering that Conor's contract was coming due. They do need to find a replacement for his 60 or so points. Right now the Jets are a worse team with his loss. Hopefully Lambert or someone else in the system can fill that role.

Time to let the kids step up...just like those that came before. Draft and develop has worked well for the Jets (Connor, Ehlers, Sheif, Morrisey, Samberg, Lowry, Perfetti and Bucky are the template).

It was probably the same aav but an 8 year deal. I'm not sure any of the current young'ns will be an upgrade to what currently on the roster. They're in the win now spot. Not lets sacrifice wins to develop our young guys. But im not an NHL gm so what do i know lol
