Took some pictures of the work on Dewdney tonight, I hadn't been there previously. The sidewalk is taking shape towards Broad. Very windy, the drone kept drifting off.

Dewdney restoration

From Bushwakkers Facebook page:

First glimpse! The brand new sidewalk is currently being installed on the north side of Dewdney Avenue near Broad Street. It will be a nice mix of modernism and rusticity reflective of the Warehouse District charm as part of the $32 million dollar Dewdney Avenue facelift. It’s going to look great come November when it’s all done! Come see the progress being made in this massive positive transformation!

One thing I noticed while riding around recently is that someone with the city seems to have finally realized the road lines wear off every winter. The roads that were paved last year have been getting thermoplastic road lines applied this year. Those last many years.

Love it and can’t wait for the final result.

I've been noticing that as well. It's a very nice addition, as they definitely do last much longer.

Road lines are a basic safety/traffic flow item and a big pet peeve of mine. This is good to see. I noticed highways also seem better this year

Shaun Semple is going to Council today to seek approval to take over the YQR Distillery lease of the Agribition Building at the Real District. He says he will spend $12 million to finish the project and turn it into a full service restaurant, craft brewery, distillery and entertainment venue.

What a boondoggle. I was just thinking (with Mosaic coming up this weekend) how the Ukrainian and Filipino pavilions used to both be in that building in different years, but got kicked out thanks to this.

This is so much better with photos right to the site. Once done, it’s gonna be spectacular. And thank you so much.

It's not a favour': Shaun Semple gets 90-year lease at REAL for sports bar, music venue
CBC

One of Saskatchewan's most well-known businessmen now has a 90-year lease at Regina's exhibition grounds and a plan to build a "premium sports bar."

The deal between Shaun Semple, owner and CEO of the Brandt group of companies, and Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) was approved by city council in an 8-3 vote Tuesday.

102207241 Saskatchewan Ltd., a numbered company owned by Semple, will take over the lease of YQR Distillery Ltd., which has failed to pay REAL approximately $500,000 in rent over the past six months.

The Brandt CEO said that once it is fully operational, it will create more than 100 new jobs with the possibility of as many as 200.

To make it become reality, Semple plans to spend at least $12 million to upgrade the space.

The lease will also prohibit any other new sports bars or pubs from opening at REAL, and no other company will be able to offer wholesale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.
Finally, some REAL good news

So, instead of maybe future thinking that it could be the start of an entertainment district, we get a monopoly. Lol.

I wouldn't call the fiasco of YQR the "start of an entertainment district". I'm not saying giving Semple carte blanche is a solution either but something needed to be done.

I wouldn't either, but twenty to thirty years of growth and Regina will probably be somewhere between 300k to 350k. A new hockey arena in the rail or on Broad, or a baseball stadium. With the stadium close by and they still have sixty years of a monopoly. To me that's pharmaceutical company ridiculous.

There is plenty of underdeveloped land around REAL that can accommodate liquor and venues. In fact there is liquor store across the street on Elphinstone.
