Yeah there’s a massive disconnect between MB Hydro and anything that may or may not be on the City’s or a local BIZ’s priority lists.

They rarely even communicate on maintenance schedules. It seems pretty common that after the City spends a ton of money renewing a street or sidewalk, Hydro or Centra Gas will roll on in the next summer and dig up the new concrete to do underground work (patched with asphalt of course).

This. This is the one that grinds my gears the most. A whole street will get rehabilitated and fixed with new foundation, gravel, moisture barrier and like, 2 feet of nicely laid concrete on a major through fare, and then a year later, hydro goes and digs everything up and sloppily puts it back together.

Some hard hats at the Boyd building again today. Maybe it's finally happening?

Red River Métis Nation Heritage Centre

This project has been rolling along under the radar, they are aiming for a 2026 opening.

Red River Métis Nation Heritage Centre
Location: 335 Main Street
Developer:The Manitoba Métis Federation - the National Government of the Red River Métis
Status: Under Construction
Architects: Number TEN Architectural Group
Description: the National Government of the Red River Métis - is developing a Heritage Centre in the heart of our Homeland on Winnipeg's iconic corner of Portage and Main. Symbolically facing toward the Northwest, the Heritage Cenre is at the most significat intersection of our Red River Cart Trails from across the Prairies. This one-of-a-kind Heritage Centre will tell our Red River Métis stories and showcase our history with engaging exhibits and programs that mix historical artifacts and contemporary art in unique ways. The Heritge Centre will dignify the history and interpret the significance of the Red River Métis in the development and future of Canada and be a welcoming place that is accessible and inclusive as a place for gathering and celebrating our Red River Métis collective identity and culture.

A new story is infused into the neoclassical façade with a screen designed with Métis beadwork artist, Jennine Krauchi. The design blends the building’s decoration with natural motifs found in traditional Métis beadwork. Hundreds of coloured aluminum chains form the screen, a reference to the moment Louis Riel stepped on the surveyor’s chain, forever changing Manitoba’s history.

My current company is doing the electrical there. I likely won’t be getting to work on it though. Current site is building a brand new twin node, 4 backup generator powerhouse for a govt agency’s existing compound. Glad to see some good use gonna come from that ol bldg though.

Re-imagining Graham Avenue

Re-imagining Graham Avenue
Location: Graham Avenue
Developers: City Of Winnipeg
Status: Council review
Documents: CentrePlan 2050 - May 2024 | CentrePlan 2050 - Re-imagining Graham Avenue
Media: City asking for feedback on re-imagination of Graham Avenue
Description: The City wants to create a signature street in Downtown. A place to meet-up on a patio, attend a market, gather for events, read a book in the shade, or walk a dog. In June 2025, bus routes will begin moving off Graham Avenue as planned in the Winnipeg Transit Master Plan. This gives Winnipeg an incredible opportunity to re-imagine how we use Graham Avenue.

The vision for a highrise residential on that skycity site makes sense. I honestly liked the last design iteration of skycity. Would love for someone to come along and build something similar.

If Graham Ave actually turns into that, it will be amazing. It's a dusty dump right now.

It would rival Stephen Ave or Robson and would make me so happy

^ Great news for downtown. A 5-star hotel with street front businesses is a huge improvement over a government office building. It looks like construction is already well underway. I'll try to take a picture the next time I go by.

Man would it ever be funny if that building becomes thr NHL five star. Despite Sutton's 4-5 year headstart.

Honestly, it probably will be. This looks great for Broadway. Broadway needs more of this! (Design, not necessarily hotels haha)

Beautiful renderings! Hopefully this Hyatt project goes better than last Hyatt project (138 Portage Ave East), which ended in a lawsuit, squatters, rooftop fire, and collapsed elevator shaft.

Just down the street from the Legislature seems to be a pretty good location for hosting visiting politicos/meetings.
