^ From what I know that particular part of land on that corner is going to become a gas station.

From what I understand it’s gonna be an Irving station and owned by the Penney Group. I’m assuming it will probably a one or two fast food restaurants attached as that’s pretty much the norm these days.

I'm guessing with the announcement of the new St. Clare's replacement nearby, this area will quickly become a hot spot for development.

They still build gas stations in St. John's? Here in Vancouver they're all slowly disappearing, the land being redeveloped.

It's replacing a smaller gas station further down the street, so I guess it's not a brand new pump but more of a replacement.

There is much more than a gas station at this point. The site is full of heavy equipment and they are clearing the area back more and more daily. Water/sewer pipe has arrived on the site as well.

Perhaps thats where the Island Furniture store is going. I know they were planning to move up on Kenmount Road and then close the Stavanger and Empire Ave stores.

Renovations to the Village Mall?

Under the city meeting for March 25th (Not sure if the permits were approved yet), it shows a permit for 430 Topsail Road (Village Mall) for Change of occupancy/renovations for a shopping centre. Even though above it says renovations for other service.

Are we finally gonna see the village mall be renovated?

I noticed the steel had arrived last week. At that time, I ran into a city worker who told me he thinks it's a Robin's Donuts. A week later, I still have the same puzzled look on my face. I really really really hope this is not true and that it's actually anything but a Robin's.

I drove by that location on Commonwealth Avenue today and took a snap of the steel frame. And it does look really similar to the current Taco Bell Restaurant designs. But you know, it can still be anything other than Taco Bell and also all new fast food restaurants looks like this nowadays. I tried to find something on the Mount Pearl council listings and approvals but no luck unfortunately.

Doesn't Mount Pearl post minutes of meetings where businesses are approved like St. John's does?

I checked the mount pearl minutes but all it says is approval of restaurant with drive-thru. No actual restaurant name. I wonder if anyone on council knows?

So i emailed Councillor Bill Antle and asked what the fast food restaurant (possible Taco Bell) is going to be on Commonwealth Avenue and this is what he said….

Councillor Bill Antle…
“The developer is working on a tenant for that property, he has not told us exactly what’s going there - except it will be a restaurant with a drive thru….and this is approved.

This is quite common - and yes, we too have heard lots of rumours, but nothing has been submitted to council .

Am sure, once a tenant has been signed, they will begin to advertise.”

Bill

without knowing the tenant
