Anyone know what this structure is that is being built behind the Aquarena? It doesn't seem part of the Canada Games Track and Field complex. Its about 7 floors high. I know they were gonna build student housing in that area too and was wondering if that was what this is?

Looking through the agenda of tomorrow's Committee of the Whole meeting, and found there is a proposal to build 13 apartment buildings on the old Holy Cross Junior High site. Calling for 150-200 units, so I'm assuming the buildings wouldn't have much height.

Site drawing is on page 25: https://pub-stjohns.escribemeetings.com/FileStream.ashx?DocumentId=39026

This is literally in my backyard. I'm glad to see at least a proposal, that's a massive empty space. I hope they have the drainage worked out, that area is bog and has a river running through the middle of it.

Was just reading also on the sept agenda a proposal for a new street at 188 New Pennywell road for 32 town houses. Seems to be lots of proposal now for apartments and townhouses.

VOCM this morning - https://vocm.com/2024/09/11/250604/. City seems bullish on it, but I expect the NIMBYS to start coming out of the woodwork.

The land being cleared on Kenmount Road in the Kenmount Crossing area next to Metro Self Storage is another Metro Self Storage building. This will feature inside drive-thru access and 4 levels.

Seeing on Plaza REITs website that The Village is to be redeveloped into a mixed use site.

“The Village is being redeveloped into a mixed-use project.“

Village Mall housing complex?

The village mall is planning on building an apartment complex in the back of their parking lot. Are they really hoping this will bring new tenants into the mall? They need a huge remodel, empty out all the empty store fronts hoping this will help bring in new tenants faster.

Also will these apartments be sold or rented does anyone know yet? Will these be pet friendly (what we need more of in this province)

Another great St. John's architecture masterpiece designed by one of the cities starchitects! Not every day they get to design something other than a meh strip mall!

Ron.

The drawings are so poor that I actually refuse to believe that's the intended design and is instead just a generic placeholder to show size and position on the lot.

If it is the intended design then jesus fucking christ lol.

Well, the concept has been approved. As Councillor Ellsworth explained, now the developer
has to spend money on a design and start the lengthy approval process.

City of St. John's Red Tape

I'm sure the ongoing saga with Danny Williams is both sides taking a hard line on process but it seems the City pisses off anyone when it comes to development....of any kind. Galway, downtown, Mary Browns Center tenents....
Who the hell is running this place and what's their problem???

Another proposal for affordable living being proposed for the west end on Blackmarsh Road opposite the Canada Drive/Blackmarsh intersection.

You can view better pics of the proposed development on…

Floor plans and exterior concepts are there.

Strange mis-match in Elsworth's comments about "moderate income families" vs. Tucker's comments about the buildings being targeted at "50+" "mature tenants".

Excavators and grubbers have returned to the land at the corner of Kenmount Road and Mount Carson Avenue once again. They are now expanding the area cleared a year ago. Lots of rumors for the area but nothing confirmed. I know Mount Pearl has big plans for the area with residential and retail. I'm guessing with the announcement of the new St. Clare's replacement nearby, this area will quickly become a hot spot for development.
