You're re-writing history and/or misunderstanding a bunch of things and conflating them all. COVID is over. Decisions were made that weren't perfect in hindsight. The alternative was an economic disaster. This was repeated all over developed economies.

It's 2025. Inflation is back within the BoC's preferred range.

Are you suggesting, with a straight face, that any deficit spending is bad and we should get to a balanced budget as of the next Federal budget (to be done shortly after the election)?

Do you actually believe the BoC governor takes marching orders from the PMO?

Did you figure out why the US and Canada didn't default like Sri Lanka yet?

I really want to avoid a minority government. I do not want the NDP holding the LPC hostage like they did over the last four years. We can't afford any more NDP extortion.
LPC - 170 anyone??
At this point we might need to count the ballots in B.C. to determine whether the incoming government is a minority or a majority.

What does "anti-woke" actually mean? Sleeping, as in "ignoring or minimizing real issues because they don't affect me personally?", or "the belief in inequality and not wanting any large systemic changes that attempt to make society more equal?" or "rejection that historically marginalized race, gender, and sexual identity groups should be seen as deserving of veneration and respect?" all of the above?

I think everyone recognized that a 200 seat majority wasn't going to happen. The CBC polltracker seems to be converging on 338's numbers (which are now at 188). So I'm holding by my prediction we'll see a high 180's Liberal majority come Monday.

At this point, about 40% of the votes (7.3M) are locked in too, and the Liberals appear to have snagged a solid 40+% of those votes, so that should offset some of the poll wiggling we're seeing too.

The Liberals’ (other) next carbon tax
The Editorial Board
Published April 21, 2025
For Subscribers

One of Mark Carney’s first acts as Prime Minister was to eliminate the federal carbon fuel charge, with the flourish of a sharpie marker and widespread media coverage.

Getting far less attention, however, is the Liberal Leader’s proposal to introduce a new layer of carbon tax on heavy industry that, if implemented, will drive up costs for those businesses and render them increasingly uncompetitive if they are not able to pass those expenses on to Canadian consumers. Mr. Carney’s replacement tax, despite being described as a way to make “big polluters” pay for subsidies for such things as EVs and heat pumps, could end up being a carbon levy on Canadian households to some degree. The only question is how much.

That was the first, next carbon tax from the Liberals. Buried in the party’s fiscal costing released over the weekend was another one: a carbon tariff. Technically speaking, the Liberals are proposing a “carbon border adjustment,” but it functions just like a tariff. Goods from countries without a sufficiently rigorous carbon pricing regime – like, say, the United States, Mexico and China – would be hit by a carbon levy, which would start in the 2027-28 fiscal year. (The Liberal campaign did not provide further details.)...

....Mr. Carney would like voters to believe that his next carbon tax will be a free-lunch substitute for the hated carbon fuel charge at the pumps. The reality – as made clear by his (other) next carbon tax – is that Canadians will still end up paying.

Globe and Mail is a rightwing tabloid just like the National Post. They run nothing but pro conservative, anti liberal content. Also owned by Americans.

The worst thing for dealing with Trump would be to get another minority government, one led by a PM which he would see as "weak", and would not respect.

Indeed. We need a strong majority government so that we can deal with the orange baboon from a position of unequivocal strength, and, we need a leader with the financial and economic credibility of someone like Mark Carney who will have the intellectual high ground in any encounter with the orange hairy ape.

This is one of the most crucial elections in Canadian history. There is only one sane choice to vote for.

Yes, the key concern here is the use of "existing". Only BC, Manitoba, PEI, and Yukon have Pharmacare deals. 18-64 year olds are not currently covered under the new dental care plan, and cannot start to apply until after the election. Saskatchewan has not joined the child care plan yet.

Alberta has a childcare plan. The UcPee grandstanded and held off for a long time but signed in the end. Now they’ve switched from a flat $10 per day and increased the payment across the board like the rich bootlickers that they are.

Yes, Canada has a major opportunity to poach top talent from US academia. We don’t need the Cons effing it up by aligning with the reasons why they want to leave.

Carney was just asked about subsidizing BC Ferries. On that topic....

Has a phased approach to an island fixed-link ever been proposed?

The geographic and cost issues of a tunnel/bridge etc seem to lie mostly in the Salish Sea. But getting a road to the edge of Galiano Island is much easier. It would shorten the Ferry to 40min from 1h40min. This would also double the ferry frequency. Doubling its capacity as a result. With a high speed ferry, the ferry-time could be shorter than 20mins. Quadrupling the frequency and capacity. Very reasonable.

Has this ever been proposed?

One has to have a positive outlook on life. They need 172 + speaker = 173. Liberal majority is obviously the best outcome.

Having 175 is to close. If they are in the low 70s perhaps a deal can be made with the greens to get an extra two seats.

We have had in the past the Liberals make way to many compromises to the NDP on social programs. If they need to compromise this time lets hope it by being more aggressive on climate change.
