DOGE is not good. Department by department audits are good. That is not what DOGE is.

Allowing 19-25 year old minions of Elon Musk firing people willy nilly with the use of AI and flawed algorithms is ridiculous.

Many career civil servants in every department have been irrationally let go only for DOGE to say "oops we made a big mistake!"

DOGE is a way for Elon Musk to remove any pending legal action against his companies. It's also allowed him to acquire the most private personal data of millions of Americans.
It's also a way for his companies to profit. Huge cuts to NASA means more private contracts to SpaceX

Do you actually think he's saving the US government 2 Trillion dollars?

Maybe you should read up on it since you don't seem to be paying close attention to what DOGE is doing.

It's a shame Canada doesn't have a black site prison gulag to send people to without due process

No. Inflation is not good.

And inflation is what you get if you don't cut gov spending. You know, that thing that everyone is complaining about with affordability?

Canada needs to delete entire departments. Whether you call it DOGE. Or take a chainsaw like Milei is semantics.

The worst of the DOGE damage hasn't even been done yet. Tons of US government information is now in the hands of the Russians, or anybody who can pay for it likely.

We can certainly debate the need to delete departments or head counts but that's pretty definitively not he cause of inflation. There aren't departments sitting there throwing money out of the window. The only way to cut spending is to cut services to Canadians. We can argue about the impact of this but pretending DOGE or any such method can find waste on a large scale is false.

RFQ jr. is already compiling the private personal data of people on the spectrum to justify his conclusion that autism is caused by vaccines. Beneath the surface this looks an awful lot like a registry of people with ASD. This is beyond chilling.

I repeat unequivocally, Justin Trudeau was the worst Prime Minister in Canadian history - an economically illiterate, narcissistic performative virtue signaler who delighted in taunting and blaming anybody who was an iota less progressive than he was (about 90% of the population), and who had utter contempt for the high office of Prime Minister, important institutions like the armed forces and complete disdain for his fiduciary responsibilities.

If Carney was not as capable as he seems, and, if Trump had not stuck his arse into Canadian politics, I would absolutely have voted for PP this time around.

These however are not normal times. The liberals do not deserve another chance. Not by a long shot. But, they appear to be the best option given the current circumstances.

My endorsement is one time only. Carney had better not waste this chance he is being given.
I feel the exact same.

As I have stated before, I voted for Carney but with my nose plugged. Although I agree with some of the Tory platforms, I just couldn't vote for PP and I think Carney will be the superior PM to deal with Trump.

That said, this is a government that does not deserve to be re-elected. Trudeau and his ilk have laid waste to this country. He was corrupt and incredibly incompetent. It will take at least a decade to undue the damage that man has caused.

It makes me truly nauseous that I had to vote for a Party I detest but here I am. I think a lot of people feel the same way. They too desperately want to punish the Liberals for their decade of horror but know that at such a critical point in our history, Carney is the man we need. I think it's very fair to say that Canadians are voting for Carney but not for Liberals.

The Elon corruption argument is valid. But it's also a distraction.

Many, many, if not most government departments are wasteful beyond belief. Look at the River Class Destroyers. They're going to cost $300B lifetime, for 15 trash ships. When we could get drastically better ships for under $1B per ship. This is egregious waste.

Cuts are not about reducing services, they're about getting maximum value for taxpayer dollars.

You have it backwards. The corruption and removing regulatory oversights are the goals. The "efficiency" is the distraction.

That's the justification, but it almost never works that way.

I'm in a similar boat though I don't understand the laid to waste hyperbole. They spent a bit too much giving money to poor people and spent too much time on Woke virtue signaling but the things that make people say Canada is broken are mostly outside the purview of the federal government. We can crack down on crime but that's not going to move the needle much. Housing and healthcare are mostly provincial issues though granted high levels of immigration haven't helped.

I think Poilievre is capable of handling Trump it's his team that is more suspect.

Depending on what the regionals say in Ontario and Quebec that could be worth keeping an eye on. Leger, as I've said many times before, is the gold standard for polling in Canada.
Top line is more or less same as last week

LPC 43%
CPC 39%
NDP 8%
BQ 6% (26% in QC)
GPC 2%
PPC 2%

ON - LPC - 48, CPC - 41
QC - LPC - 42, BQ- 26, CPC - 22
ATL - LPC 53, CPC - 35
BC - LPC - 43, CPC - 41

Eliminating the bulk of funding for USAID, America's soft power across the globe is terrible enough. China will fill in the vacuum left behind.

But the data mining, and full scope of DOGE damage has yet to be seen!

But as bodaggin told us:

Regulation IS the waste. Both internally via gov expansion, and externally in the harm it does to the economy.

Regulations cause more economic cost and harm than the thing they're regulating against. Canada needs more action and less altruism.

Oh man I can't believe there are actually people buying into the idea that DOGE is genuinely there to reduce "waste". It's there to allow Musk and people like him to get away with things they otherwise couldn't like mistreating workers and consumers. Which is why the National Labor Relations Board, the Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau were among the first things targeted.

It's literally just giving a pleasant sounding name to something horrific which is the dismantlement of the only real barrier preventing self-interested billionaires from taking over society. But can give something whatever name you want. It's what that thing is and does that matters.

I can't believe people glaze over a $200+ billion waste on River Class Destroyers.

Government wastes money at epic proportions and it needs to stop. Period.

Interesting to see Carney's take on the revenue projections of the Conservatives and that they cannot be that good given our current tariff / global ecoomic situation.

Some other interesting costed platform facts:

Pictures of the Leader
Conservative = 17
Liberal = 1

Pictures of the Leader Wife
Conservative = 5
Liberal = 0

Pages
Conservative = 30
Liberal = 67

Election Canada reports that 7.3 million people voted at the advance polls. That is 7.3 million votes that can't be changed now.
