CBC Article on the Green party being removed
A bit disappointing, but I agree with the decision. The commission set some very clear criteria for participating in the debates, and the Green party clearly anticipated being able to meet them.
The unprecedented collapse in their (and NDP and BQ) support may have caught them by surprise, but they should still have been able to scrounge up enough candidates at least. That they didn't manage at least that is entirely on them really.
Yoinking them out now that they officially don't have enough candidates does make sense. Though the commission should probably have made it official a week or so ago, when the candidate lists were finalized.
All in all, for an election that Helen Keller could have seen coming from last year, it feels like everyone was woefully underprepared for this campaign. The CPC I can understand being caught flatfooted by the LPC Leader change, and not being able to pivot in time.
But the other parties and Elections Canada, all could see the writing on the wall; they should have been lining their ducks up since last fall to be ready to go at a moments notice. Getting your candidates ready to go is just Campaigning 101.
