But seriously folks...

Carney disturbs me for too many reasons to mention, and the Liberals really should be kicked out on their fugging keisters for what they've done to this country over the past ten years, but if the story of Carney cleverly manipulating the bond market, making Trump wake up and take notice, really is true, then I will grudgingly admit that he's probably the right man for the job at the present moment.

For a second. But this is SSP, after all!
It's funny that in the US, the sign destruction was a totally left thing with tons of videos to prove it. Here? Not so much, proof that is. Would it be asking too much to see two videos?

I need a refresher:

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation where someone is made to doubt their own perceptions of reality, thoughts, and memories.

Key aspects of gaslighting:
Manipulation: The gaslighter uses verbal and nonverbal techniques to create doubt and confusion in the victim's mind.
Denial and distortion: They may deny facts, misunderstandings, or the victim's feelings.
Shifting blame: The gaslighter may blame the victim for their own actions or reactions.

I actually think he might be the right man for the job...right now. But when this passes I want him and his (what was it?) 87% of leftover leftists gone. And to keep the professional activist Guilbeault around is unconscionable.

The cons: badly losing, an embarrassing showing after being so far ahead at one point, absolutely desperate to change the narrative.

The libs: likely coasting to a win.

As with any nefarious behaviour, what is the motive and who is more motivated to act?

An overheard conversation in a bar is not proof of anything. Real evidence is necessary to come to more solid conclusions. In the meantime, cons will try to make hay of this.

So I guess an eye and ear witness isn't enough. And working for the CBC isn't usually a pathway for Conservative sympathy.

Let me see what was that definition again for my own benefit? Gaslighting...

A first hand account definitely qualifies as evidence. It isn't proof unless there's a way to rule out the possibility that they're mistaken or lying (external verification). But if the witness is generally reliable and has no clear motive to mislead then it's pretty strong evidence. Much stronger than 2nd or 3rd hand hearsay.

I strongly suspect the CBC story is legitimate. It's just dumb enough to be the kind of thing a couple of overzealous young political staffers/partisans would do.

I also don't think it likely reflects on the broader Liberal party leadership. It came from "the war room" but that hardly means it was directed from the top. I'd be surprised if it were more than a couple of rogue staffers. In which case the party can do the right thing and look good doing it if they fire the offending staffers and publicly acknowledge that it was unethical. I'd respect that.

Either way it won't change my vote, which will be Liberal. I think party has the best policy planks and the most capable leader, and because I think the Conservatives' policy proposals and overall approach will be at worst regressive and at best unsuccessful. But if the party doesn't take swift responsibility I will be disappointed.

You can posture in whatever definition of victimization you would like. That doesn’t change or prove anything.

There are other possible explanations based on one presumably trustworthy person overhearing something in a bar. I don’t share your weak version of proof.

I have rarely voted liberal and considered voting for every party, even PPC as a protest vote. I’m not some liberal hack who would defend anything.

From CBC the Lib source of all that’s true:

Liberal operatives planted 'stop the steal' buttons at conservative conference
Conservatives accuse Liberals of ‘attempting to bring American-style politics’ to Canada
Kate McKenna · CBC News · Posted: Apr 13, 2025 9:47 AM PDT

Two Liberal Party staffers attended last week's Canada Strong and Free Networking (CSFN) Conference where they planted buttons that used Trump-style language and highlighted division within the Conservative Party.

The conference, often referred to by its former name, the Manning Conference, is an opportunity for conservative-leaning Canadians to talk about policy proposals and network. It was held at the Westin Hotel in downtown Ottawa….

This is a good take. The Liberals get blamed for a lot of world conditions but there actual mistakes as I see them are:
1. Anti business on climate and energy.
2. Woke DEI nonsense in government policy and PM's bully pulpi
3. They veered towards over-spending and productivity killing tax increases. The first two are very likely to continue under Carney the latter probably a happy medium is on offer wheras the Cons are likely to cut everything they can see along with throwing away lots of tax revenue in politically attractive tax cuts. Of course a lot of the biggest whiners about over spending were doing pretty well from getting government largesse.

Disappointing if true.

While I do hope its false. If its true, poor Liberal staffs having to sit through a Manning conference. Can you image how out of touch a conference named after a political leader that wants to blackmail Canadians by threating one of the provinces would seperate.

I have now basically made up my mind, I'm voting for Carney and I'm plugging my nose when I do it.

This is a gov't that does not deserve a 4th term. Trudeau and his Liberal lapdogs have run this country into the ground and our standard of living and quality of life has plunged under their tyranny. Yes, I think it's fair to say that Carney will be more financially responsible and not as blindly ideological as Trudeau but that doesn't undo the damage they have caused. If Trump hadn't come along, I would still be plugging my nose but would be voting for PP not Carney.

Unfortunately, Trump did come along and we are truly in a state of emergency when it comes to our economy. Both Carney & Poilievre know this but I am concerned that PP will try to make the best of a very bad situation and give too many concessions to Trump. I am also concerned that, due to having to pander to his conservative Western base, he will be far less likely to want to strike a deal like EFTA with the EU. Ont/Qu/AC would probably love such a deal while his Western support would probably not as they associate the EU with leftist ideas and government largess. Canada MUST start integrating our economy, defense, and foreign affairs with the EU to move away from the US not only now but in the long-term and I just don't think the Tories would be receptive to that.

So Carney it is but it makes me want to toss my lunch to even have to say it.

Then vote Conservative and hopefully the Liberals can be reduced to a minority government where at least the opposition might have some say

I only have a dog in the Canada fight not the Alberta fight but if they don't throw a bone to Alberta what clear honest thinking person can blame Alberta for being so desperate. What are they supposed to do? If there isn't a cross Canada pipeline built and going through Quebec (and one going west) I don't blame Albertans for doing what they think is best for them.

Kind of off topic, but I didn't know where else to post it.

Thoughtful guy, much more introspective than the guy I saw hosting useless entertainment crap years ago on TV.

Mentions his sister as being a hard worker. I wonder if she will make a run for the big job someday. Is she in good with the Ontario Tory machine?

Talks about befriending Trudeau but it sounds like they are estranged now but he never stated that (I don't think)

It's not only Alberta that benefits it drives wealth across Canada. It's basically our lost decade. If you look it starts a full year before Trudeau comes to power. (a lot of the worst comparison is currency change resulting from the oil drop).

It was the key to our post financial crisis recovery along with our housing boom but we seem to also be sick of that. Magic green energy unicorns aren't going to rescue us no matter how much we spend subsidizing it. The rest of our economy is mostly our good access to the US market which is now in doubt.

Ben Mulroney has been hosting on a Toronto conservative talk radio for a while now. He’s a lot deeper than his eTalk days. I expect him to make the jump politics at some point.
