Just another moment in this gong show. The fundamental instability remains and so it will be hard to invest long-term in the USA or in American supply chain integration and other countries will look for trade with more reliable partners. China is the most likely winner of this ill-conceived trade war as they're not simultaneously taking on the rest of the world.

I wonder if there is any way to prosecute individuals in the Trump administration for stock market manipulation if they are trading before these changes are made public.

Her ultimate plan is probably to hold a referendum and try to surrender Alberta to Trump in the likely event that Carney wins. Even Jason Kenney called her out and said increasing the price of our oil should be on the table when it comes to defending our country's sovereignty. I disagree on all your points.

I think she was able to limit it tariffs on Canadian oil to 10%?

I’m certain if other provinces like Ontario could have done the same for the auto sector it would be deemed a success, relative to the current 25%. But I get it, that’s Ontario and that’s auto, not Alberta and not oil.

I think peddling her “plan” to hold a referendum to separate/become part of the USA is delusional. BUT, it is good to be able to have a willing trading partner, the one and only, that will buy AB’s primary industry’s product. It’s cause the USA is the only customer of our oil that is why AB, and Canada, needs to have good relations. If we cut them off intentionally, there is no one else to sell it to. AB is entirely dependent on the USA as our one and only customer. Entirely. That is unfortunately the downfall of not having more access to the globe.

So, good for her to try to keep relations civil.

Trump is going to do this to us, regardless of political affiliation. He is mentally unstable. We can either be a nation of boot lickers, or to stand up to a bully. Only one of the two main candidates is prepared to stand on his feet, and defend Canada.

We have to keep in mind that MOST of the UCP are Trump supporters, and that is precisely why they chose Danielle Smith. We both lived in Alberta, and have seen first hand the corruption, and incompetence of Smith and the UCP. Sadly, a vocal minority of Canadian are brainwashed by right wing propaganda. We have seen it on this forum.

But I’ve seen Poilievre’s plan, and surely you have to, to stand up to Trump, which is exactly in line with Carney… why do you say only one of the two is prepared to defend Canada?

Carney’s plan actually goes against Canada’s best interest and actually works for the USA… the one where he says he will not revoke Bill C69, that prohibits the development of infrastructure to get oil to the global market… that one leaves us dependent on the USA. So by Carney enforcing that, he ultimately leaves Canada completely vulnerable to the USA.

Poilievre, on the other hand, would revoke C69, allowing us to get oil to the global market, removing the noose the USA has around Canada’s neck when it comes to oil exports.

In that respect, Poilievre’s plan to fight back against the USA seems a hell of a lot better than Carney’s.

What is your rebuttals to that? In your opinion is it better for Canada for Carney to restrict our Oil industry to only the USA?

Trump is going to fold like a deck of cards. There is already a bill passed by the Congress, and on the way to the Senate, NOT to impose any tariffs on Canad. Rand Paul of all people, are doing the rounds on TV, explaining how damaging tariffs on Canada are to the USA.

All we have to do is wait it out, and Trump will fold, like the weak man that he is. I have second hand embarrassment for any forum member, who thinks caving to Trump is a good thing.

I don't think the 10% tariff is extended to Canada - thank you Carney!

Also saw the poll that showed most Canadians believe Carney is responsible for the cancellation of the carbon tax - I would love to be a fly on the wall at CPC HQ when that poll is reviewed - Jenni and Pierre in full meltdown!
