Poilievre Stop in Fish Plant Smells

"When they arrived in Petty Harbour a staffer they had hired had already pissed off a number of reporters who arrived early, by telling them to sit in their cars until they were called. That didn’t go over very well and set the tone for the next hour.

The location was on a public wharf for the arrival, and then inside the local fisherman’s co-op fish plant for the speech.

When the staffers had the six young No Place For Hate protesters kicked off the wharf with threats, they ordered the media present inside the fish plant before Poilievre’s bus arrived. All declined the staffer’s commands. The staff got very aggressive, and insisted reporters do as they said, presumably so reporters could not photograph or record the arrival. It’s obvious that Poilievre’s people only want the media to record the speech for TV, not get anything else, and leave."

Rational Quebecers should feel even more of an existential threat than anglo Canadians. Unlike certain Trump admirers on this forum.

Liberals open up an 11 point lead, according to Nanos.

That's just insane. An 11% voting advantage is landslide territory.

I cannot imagine how PP can recover from this.

And this is even with Carney's (self admitted) C grade abilities in French. So far, most Quebecers seem to be willing to give him a pass on this (a tremendous shock to liojack, I would imagine).

Quebecers tend to vote with a herd instinct. In this election, the herd is stampeding towards the LPC.

The only potential roadblock will be the upcoming French language debate. If Carney can survive this, then the election will be a foregone conclusion.

Carney is inspiring, and breeds confidence and trust. I mean, how can you not want to vote for this guy when the alternative is the perpetually peevish and petulant Pierre Poillievre.

I found it shocking how many ridings outside the blue wall around Quebec City had 20+% support for the CPC. I expected 10-15% support, max. There's a very significant amount of CPC voters in Quebec that don't have a hope in hell of seeing their Conservative candidate win, and that split in the vote could help the Liberals win the most seats in Quebec since the 1980 election.

The BQ and CPC seemingly shouldn't split each other vote, but it seems like the CPC vote in ridings outside the blue wall of Quebec could impact the BQ's ability to win close ridings, much like the NDP vote can spoil close ridings for the Liberals.

Fissure among Conservatives undermining Poilievre's pitch he's a national unifier: experts

Long-simmering tensions within the Conservative movement are bursting out into the federal election, experts say — undercutting Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre's efforts to present himself as a unifier who can take on U.S. President Donald Trump. Those tensions materialized again after ex-Reform Party leader Preston Manning and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, both Western-populist-styled Conservatives, made a series of controversial statements that raised the ire of former Stephen Harper cabinet ministers James Moore and Jason Kenney.

And the antagonism between the mainstream and populist factions of the party would have remained in the shadows, experts say, had Poilievre maintained his 25-point lead over the Liberals. But now, blood is in the water, and the sharks are circling. Experts say the fissure among the Conservatives has long existed and — while paved over for a while during the Harper years — may be ready to crack wide open.

"This didn't just pop up this year in response to Trump and the tariffs," Lisa Young, a political science professor at the University of Calgary, told CBC News. "There is a fairly profound divide within the Conservative movement."

"If the Liberals win, say goodbye to Alberta as a province in Canada," is not exactly a winning election strategy. Considering people do not take kindly to threats, I can't see this going over well anywhere.

All the Libs need to do now is avoid a major gaffe in the remaining days of the campaign.

In circumstances like this the usual strategy is to minimize the number of events and promises made in order to lessen the risk of making a gaffe.

The way Carney speaks is the furthest from feisty or passion, he is dull, yet judging by the polls people have gravitated to him.
Voters ultimately want to see authenticity. Carney is authentically boring. He's a bland globalist technocrat who does not pretend to be anything different. You get what you see.

All PP has ever known is attack dog style. He's been the guy in the opposition making sly remarks and pointed (and effective) attacks at the Liberals. He really doesn't know anything different. His base LOVES this Pierre. The general public that he needs to win the election however finds this style arrogant and unattractive.

I imagine his handlers have told him this, and he is trying to be more serious and calm. The issue is that it comes off as not authentic. Let's see how voters react.

"Vote for Pierre or the West is going to separate from Canada!!"

-yeah, that really does a great job of framing PP as a unifying leader.

How do you like them apples, Pierre?

“Carneymania” explained:
https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2025/0...-et-les-quebecois-vont-voter-pour-carney

Quebec voters don’t take federal elections that seriously (the elephants in the room, healthcare, education, etc. are provincially run) so it’s easy to vote for the flavor of the month. 2011, in recent memory, was actually even more ridiculous than a Carney landslide would be this year. I mean, FFS, plenty of people who had no idea in which approximate corner of Quebec their ridings were, got elected!!

There’s no telling whether this Carneymania will last until e-day, but it actually might.

The Poilievre campaign not allowing questions at media stops, trying to fully control the message/ afraid of Pierre's answers, and now infighting from the Alberta wing of the party. Who knew it would be this exciting right before the election?

The internal CPC polling must be excellent.

Imagine if I’m the candidate in Thunder Bay, and I’ve never set foot in Ontario, and when a journalist asks me where my riding is, I say I’m guessing it’s maybe somewhere in the Toronto area…? And I get elected.

That’s how Quebec votes federally. So nothing should surprise you

At this rate, Alberta will not be drilling much oil out of the ground, if the oil prices tank so hard, that it makes no fiscal sense to do so. However, I am sure Smith will find a way to blame Ottawa and the Liberals, instead of her Orange God, who tanked the World economy.

Curious how Kenney is captain Canada after cynically throwing all the red meat he could to the anti Ottawa base to become Premier. He was the big blue truck driving populist railing against Trudeau and the carbon tax. He created the energy ‘War Room’ and ‘Fair Deal’ panel. Then Dr. Frankenstein’s monster Stormy Danielle arose with the anti vaxxers who thought Kenney wasn’t extreme enough. Now here we are. I guess it makes sense it all goes back to Reeefffwwwaaaarrrrrrrmmmm!!! whiner in chief Preston Manning.

Maybe she’ll rubber stamp some more coal mines for the Eastern Slopes of the Rockies. Water supply be damned.

From very reliable sources, I am hearing there will be a metaphorical bloodbath if The Liberals win a majority. We may even see the CPC break into two- one group of moderates, like the old Federal PC party, and one that is more like the old Reform Party.

Who would have thought the a party campaigning for 3 years on hate and division. would unintentionally see their party implode due to hate and division.

The people of that area would never stand for it. That would be the straw that ultimately breaks the camels back in Alberta, if Smith was dumb enough to attempt something like this.

This ultimately may be a good thing.

The Maple MAGA Reform pole of the Conservative Party is incompatible with the traditional Progressive Conservative wing. There is just too much philosophical disagreement.

I think MAGA ultimately will be a fad, and will die away once Trumpian fascism has run it's course. I think a reconstituted Progressive Conservative Party has room to grow, but, we are likely going to consign ourselves to another 25 years of Liberal governance if the Conservative Party cleanly fractures.

I think this is inevitable.
