Good to see they aren't wasting most of the springtime to start work on the Highbury CP overpass rebuild. Priestly Demolition heavy equipment now working on the west half of the overpass bridge and approaches with traffic on the east side down to one lane in each direction. Hopefully they are able to complete the Highbury west side rebuild from Oxford to Dundas this year opening up this major north-south route in the city.

The construction signs in the area say reduced lanes to winter 2026, which I assume means the winter that starts in late 2026, so 2 more summer construction seasons of it.
Crews now installing the steel posts for the sound barrier wall on the east side of Wellington north of Bradley. This is the stretch that has SFH backyards.
City needs to complete the current phases of the Wellington BRT work this construction season and put an end to the pain and frustrations being felt along this stretch. No more Friday day offs for the crews or job site shutdowns because there were a few sprinkles of rain in the morning when you know its ending a few hours later.

Ah the usual objectivity of the London Free Birdcage Liner. Walt Lonc (who writes letters 8 times/week) and the usual crowd of curmudgeonly conservatives will obviously be outraged and characterize this as a complete "waste of taxpayers money" (crickets though on some overpass that cost 100 million smackeroos).
Maybe this guy (Walt Lonc) is on the LFP payroll? He should be, on account of how much ink is devoted to his complaints.

I would have to do some indepth research to find pre-2010 election results, but Walter Lonc seems to me to be someone who was a perpetual candidate for city council. I last see record of him running in 2010, where he came second to Matt Brown in Ward 7 with about 20% of the vote. Interesting in that race is he beat out the former editor of the London Free Press, and partner of The Londoner paper, Phil McLeod. Typical of the old time Northwest London car centric folk who caused the city sprawl and say their taxes are too high that nothing should be spent elsewhere in the city.

Walter Lonc was the Ward 7 councillor from 2006 to 2010... so he was actually the incumbent when he lost to Matt Brown in 2010 pretty decisively.
Wow, thanks for that reminder, I totally forgot then lol. 2006 was the first election of the 14 ward system, did he defeat a former councillor or was this one of the new wards where none of the sitting councillors ran? Looks like 3 from the 03-06 term aren't in the 06-10 council.

A couple pictures of the Highbury overpass and the construction looking north. Not sure what the plan is with the overpass, but I would assume they are going to rebuild 3 lanes on the west side where they just demo'd the 2 lanes, move traffic over to that side, demo this remaining side and build 3 lanes there.

Once Wellington and Commissioners starts to get ripped up, expect like 2 years of construction hell not just there, but on all the roads nearby as everyone looks for a decent alternative to bypass this intersection.
I am curious how they will stage this build. There is land on the east side to construct some sort of temporary bypass for Wellington if they wanted.
Too bad the connector between the two Adelaide Streets wasn't built. While I understand why, it would certainly be super beneficial during a project like this.
