This afternoon - One week build up of the building core.
Not sure if this means they'll do the entire elevator core or start with the steel/mass timber right away.

You're probably correct just caught this on Kindred's Instagram

In January they said this

Quote:
The L1 concrete pour is officially complete, marking another milestone for this exciting project. Up next: the L2 and L3 concrete pours, followed by the installation of the steel structure and mass timber elements.

From that quote, sounds like floors and walls are going in sometime in the next week or two.
The logistics on that is going to be hectic. Not much or any room on this site for prep or staging work, it will be interesting to see how everyone gets along.

part of me will miss the brick and open space the building provided but given the slowdown in building downtown, beggars can't be choosers.

Would've preferred the 7-11 site nearby to be the one undergoing demolition though.

I'm still surprised the Sbux across the street is one they chose to keep open.

It's coming in on 10 years so it's a good time to not renew their lease

That store does very well and the neighbourhood only continues to grow in population. Why would they close it? It’s not on a high street so I imagine it also has reasonable rent.

It just surprises me as there’s not a huge amount of office traffic around to generate traffic. I guess Burrard Place falls in their walk zone.

I couldn't find anything on the forum about this, searching "Germain":

No rezoning needed.

"It would be just [needing] a minor development permit, just for any outside related work, and a building permit," he said. "It's very fast."

He anticipates construction on the site, at the northwest corner of West Hastings and Thurlow streets, to start next year so Le Germain Hotel Vancouver can open in 2029.

The office building is about 70 per cent leased, Stovell said, and all the tenants have demolition or vacation clauses. The delay in starting reconstruction on the inside of the building is that Reliance must give tenants notice to move out, he added.

The shell of the building will be saved, Stovell added.

It doesn't look like there will be any balconies. Huge restaurant downstairs.

Love this!

Plus Le Germain Hotels are fantastic properties with exceptional design, this building suits their design philosophy perfectly. Great addition to our hotel inventory!

The building to the west originally was a Holiday Inn, not a Ramada, after that it was New World Harbourside, then Pinnacle Hotel, not sure if it was something in between New World and Pinnacle.

Harbourside Holiday Inn
New World Harbourside
Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside
Pinnacle Hotel Vancouver Harbourfront

Before 1111 W Hastings became known as the Coopers & Lybrand Building it was called the Baxter Building, as it was developed by RC Baxter Properties (who were a subsidiary of dodgy UK developer Slater Walker). It was the first completed in that row, that were collectively called the Columbia Centre.

That tower cost $4 million when it was built.

The pair also worked on four West Broadway officer towers between 1961-1964.

And the architectural firm eventually ended up as Stantec through various mergers.

The neighboring hotel was a Ramada Renaissance at one time - in the 1980s before it was branded as New World Harbourside.
So my age is showing:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance_Hotels

The chain dropped the Ramada from the Renaissance brand in 1989.

Some footage of them doing the elevator core work on the 981 Davie project

https://www.instagram.com/p/DHtrNP3SW2p/

It seems like they are already 4-5 levels up on the elevator core so maybe it will complete first.
