This is interesting. More Americans would want their state to join Canada, than Canadians want to join America. 30% of 18-34 year olds in the United States, would like their state to join Canada.

Something like 10-20% of Americans used to say they'd move to Canada if Trump got elected too. I think these responses are communicating feelings about US domestic politics rather than informed opinions on how to redraw the map.

It would be pretty disruptive for a US border state to join Canada. Their transport infrastructure would become much less efficient overnight for example, and these days they could get caught up in the arbitrary trade wars happening.

Is this really the best candidate PP and the conservatives could come up with? Jesus...
He ran in London West for the Ontario PC in the 2018 Ontario election. This was a quick rebound opportunity he went for as it was immediately after losing his radio gig at Corus. He came in second, but had the lowest support of any of the 2nd place finishers in the last 5 elections, that were all won by the NDP MPP.

He is now running for the CPC in whatever the former Elgin Middlesex London riding is called now. It does have a little history of electing a Liberal in the 3 Chretien elections, but this was solidly because of Reform and PC vote splitting. Since 2004, this riding was a sure bet for the CPC, with typically 50%+ support, and I doubt that Lawton is going to lose it.

I live in Woodstock and got an invite to that rally on Wednesday night. I also got an invite to the CPC rally in London on March 9, so I guess both parties are casting wide nets trying to ensure crowds lol

Albeit separately most of his anecdotes are in fact the kinds of things I have been hearing from various people in my wider entourage. It would be unwise to dismiss these concerns outright.

These are good points that may work in Carney’s favour though Trudeau was far more hated than Biden was.

Both were also kind of parachuted into the role and campaign with little preparation (Harris) or experience (Carney) for it.

The initial main advantage of both seems to be that they *aren't* The Other Bad Guy.

Though I'd add though that Carney has one big advantage in that the campaign here is much shorter than what Harris had to fight. Even if the air starts coming out of his tires he still has a good chance to make it over the finish line.

Surely you must have noticed that there are some differences between Kamala Harris and Carney? There are also some differences between Trump and Poilievre.

He is brainwashed by far-right propaganda. Acajack has difficulty adapting to forums that are not Conservative echo chambers.

Oh I can't stand that guy. He's said so many awful things. Once terrible one that really stood out was about the École Polytechnique and the people holding the vigils.

I don't think that either Green seat is safe right now. The candidate in the Kitchener Centre one only won with 33% of the votes in 2021. And Elizabeth May only had 36% in 2021 which was down a fair amount from her previous elections I believe.

It's really unfortunate Trump took over cause it's been a massive distraction from the issues plaguing this country. Gen Z and Millennials are screwed when it comes to job and career growth. Record number of foodbank users. Crap infrastructure and lack of housing. Crime and a broken judicial system. This country is absolutely in the shitter and all the headlines are about Donald Trump.

The takeaway is we are still going to keep immigration levels at 500,000+ in addition to TFW's, International Students, along with other backdoor avenues to PR (family reunification, asylum seekers). There's little pressure on both parties to relook at the numbers and increase enforcement for rule breakers. PP and Carney are proponents of bringing in an influx of cheap labour and more people in general to artificially prop up the economy. PP is the biggest joke of a candidate I've seen...one minute he speaks to the media about bringing in sane immigration numbers and the next he's at a neighborhood event telling supporters he will increase avenues to PR. What a tool.
If things are so bad in Canada name a country that's a good example of where things are going really well?

How do you feel about how the Ford government has handled health care?

‘Deeply hypocritical’: Pierre Poilievre slammed ‘illegal border crossers,’ but his own relative crossed and stayed

In late July 2018, Pierre Poilievre took aim at “illegal border crossers.”

“How much will it cost to house the illegal border crossers in hotels in the coming year?” he repeatedly asked during a parliamentary committee hearing, criticizing the Liberal government for helping shelter thousands of asylum seekers who had entered the country through Roxham Road in Quebec.

“Who will pay for it?”

Two months later, the Conservative leader’s own uncle-in-law crossed Roxham Road on foot. After failing to get his refugee claim approved, he appears to have lived undocumented in Canada with a deportation order in his name.

With Poilievre, it's "do as I say, not as I do...."

The race isn't over. There is a good possibility that the poll standings may reverse somewhat, making the actual race much closer than we think right now. You may still have the opportunity to gloat with some proper perspective, after some hidden bodies come bobbing out of the water. I mean, it seems Carney has money, so something must be wrong with that, right?

Well Trump has now reached out to Carney to talk with him. I liked what Carney said today about the close relationship with the US being over. Trump has only been hurting the economy and now his support is falling. The tariff announcements he made were strange and confusing. So I'm wondering what he wants to tell Carney. Very strange for it to be happening during an election campaign here.
