I agree completely. I am a long-time NDP voter, and I like and generally approve of Singh, but this mimetic overemphasis on the absurd minutiae of cultural affairs leaves me completely cold.
And the question you singled out was one of the ones that left me most irritated.
Of course I favour diversity, but not at the expense of sanity and reason. If I were in a position to hire someone and had an assemblage of candidates in front of me, I would take the one most qualified and suited for the job, whatever his or her colour, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, etc., etc. I suggest to the NDP that this kind of piffle is repellent to most people.
