You can verify it for yourself on the OECD website. The data available on the website only goes until 2023 though, so it's not exactly the same. But Canada places 3rd last if your cutoff is 2023. It seems like Mexico had a good year in 2024 while our GDP per capita declined again, resulting in us dropping to 2nd last by the end of 2024.

University of Calgary, eh?

jk

I guess he's also the director Fiscal and Economic Policy at U of C's School of Public Policy. I wonder what his thoughts are on Carney vs Poilievre in terms of their economic and fiscal policies.

The source of the graph is the OECD, so the data should be solid. I also see Liberal premier of NB, Susan Holt, follows Trevor Tombe guy on Twitter. Not sure on his political leanings, but his Twitter page seems interesting and informative.

I saw it coming, or at least saw it as a possibility and mentioned it on here. I think it was last Summer but I'll have to search for it. I knew that Trump being elected could have drastic changes in Canada both politically and economically.

You could just click the link and verify the data yourself on the OECD page.

I did. Thanks for posting the source, I followed him on Twitter.

What's really crazy is how much more expensive housing remains in Canada compared to the United States, taking into account that the CAD is worth 30% less than the USD, Canada's economic growth much less robust, and wages are considerably lower in Canada even before taking into account currency conversion.

I still can't help but think that Mark Carney is the best option for the long term economic growth and development prospects of the Canadian economy.

In a great number of cases I have seen Mr. Poilievre act in a way which for me was exceedingly hard to understand. I feel that I would like to see the vital interests of this country in hands which I understand better and, therefore, trust more. Mr. Carney's vision and economic expertise offers Canada a better leadership alternative than a career politician with a very shallow understanding of economics... especially in the context of this trade war with the United States.

I like the way Carney handles these right-wing media question. Extremely well done. This is going to be interesting campaign to watch. I think he is going to be far more direct than JT was.

Wow what a dick that "reporter" was being. Does anybody know who it was and with which far-right website?

Carney handled that amazingly well. I love how he ended it. It sounded like something Pierre Trudeau would have told a guy like that.

I always pegged Althia Raj as a lefty (because she started off with Huffington Post Canada), I guess I was wrong... On the At Issue Panel last night, she once again took issue with his way of answering a question, and this time especially, I think his way of handling the question was quite great.

I don't think the same reporter would have been asking Donald Trump why he doesn't pay for the use of Air Force One with his personal savings, and if he'd consider refunding the US taxpayers back for his trips.

It was an utterly stupid question, and his trip to Europe was absolutely worth the taxpayer expense. I don't think we'd want our PM flying commercial ever, and especially not on his first trip abroad.

The next PM will have to make many trips to Europe to negotiate new trading relations. Germany might have to be next. This last trip certainly won't be the last time Mark Carney is back in the UK and France should he remain PM after the election.

I can't help but think of the HBO mini series, John Adams... and what Canada will need to do in order to negotiate a new relationship with Europe. This will take high level diplomacy, a lot of knowledge, skill, new ways of thinking, and some luck.

Considering our unique connection to both the UK and France, I can't think of a guy better suited for the challenge, than the former Governor of the Bank of England who was adamantly against Brexit. I think it's very clear who the Europeans and UK Labour Party would prefer dealing with... and it's not Pierre Poilievre.

Deftly handled.

That reporter is an absolute clown. "Western Standard" is run by this dimwit (of course he has the angry beard):

This is absolutely disgusting and probably a sign that the CPC plans to scorch earth anything during the election.

C'mon Pierre - grow a spine, condone it... perhaps try the high road - Canadians might like you more.

She's definitely a lefty and borderline woke even, but that's not the same as being a capital-L "Liberal". She's still a journalist after all.

Carney handled the troll question beautifully. I like his direct approach. It's day and night from the way Poilievre has conducted himself to reporters, and refreshing that Carney is so civil.

The third party ads from both sides are going to be vile. It has already started. I don't know what Canadians can do to signal to partisans that they find this unacceptable, if in fact they do.
