up to 5 today. Snow continues to melt away. My yard looks like a war zone with poo landmines everywhere. But all the wind we had this year has also done a number on my trees. lots of branches down.

Long range looks good through the weekend.

Environment Canada long range forecasting for March has Alberta quite about normal.

With a low snowpack in the mountains and no snow on the ground, looks like a drought / fire year again. Might have to invest in some N95 masks for the summer.

Fire season has started. * active and 4 of those are new. There have been 18 so far this season.

Edmonton was talking prescribed burns in the Valley this year.

Lots of prescribed burns happening around Lake Louise and Banff, not sure what Bragg Creek or Kananaskis have done. Hopefully protests at the G7 don't cause any fires this summer!

Was reading the clear zone around Banff was not going to be cut in time so we may see more burns this spring

I usually park on a street behind the school and walk across the field with my daughter. This morning I brought her and the neighbour’s kid. That was a mistake. Had to hold both of them while carefully traversing this skating rink. That’s what happens when you go from mild to cold with a lot of snow cover. Anyway, finally have a reason to use these spikes that I got from the dollar store years ago. Will see if they actually last.

Woke up to eight degrees. I'll take it!

+7C and light rain in Moncton at 8 AM.

The thaw is coming to an end though, It is already snowing in western NB and the transition here will likely be around 3 PM. Only about 2-3 cm expected here. Northwestern NB however has a heavy snowfall warning out.

The pre-existing snow on the ground has taken a severe cutting. We are now in the winter/spring transition period. Back up to +9C and sunny by next Tuesday.

Posting this picture for Tancredi. You see cottages like this built on sand dunes all over the east coast of the US. It is a somewhat rarer phenomenon in Canada. We have the good sense to realize structures like this can get washed away during storms. Americans, not so much........

I still have my Christmas tree up because my small shed had a bunch of show stacked in front of it from me shoveling a path in my backyard. The storage bins for the tree and decorations are in there. I could have relocated that snow but too much shoveling for the season already. Now the shed is free of snow and can finally put things away.

I imagine the snow cover also messed up this guy's plans. It's the same with the other Christmas house in my neighbourhood. They had their rooftop stuff and front yard stuff up for weeks and weeks after the usual time they take them down. There's all kinds of wires running on the ground.

Fortunately there is a lot of snow coming this week, so burns could still work. If it gets too dry too quickly, then they will have to stop. THey were doing a controlled burn by Banff a few years ago and the wind changed direction suddenly and started pushing towards the town. Hopefully lessons were learned!

Very spring like in Calgary this week, was 8 yesterday, small patches of grass are starting to turn green. Some cold and snow next week tho.ugh
