I am not even arguing against the downtown tunnel. It was an absolute necessity. However, the 2019 launch was not just the train problems. We heard about the bus connection issue and it got buried. We p*issed off a lot of riders when a bus service cut accompanied the opening of the train. And it has only become worse since then with OC not even able to have enough staff and buses to maintain reduced service. It is no wonder PS staff don't want to go back to the office with transit connections failing, traffic jammed and parking in short supply and the Feds wrecking the office environment over the pandemic, an experiment that few private businesses would implement.

OC and Ottawa are in big trouble by implementing plans that don't grow ridership and increase operating costs very high.

Where are the new busways that beyond the capital cost, may reduce operating costs while also improving service to customers. Busways and other transit priority measures are lost in the billions allocated to rail while we make the last mile problem worse. Why should someone wanting to save money and use transit, have to spend $4 on transit and $10 on Uber?

In fact, when it comes to the physical plant for transfers, we make it deliberately harder than it needs to be, and then you feel like you are speaking Chinese to a Klingon when you explain to the transit official or consultant about the problem, before they go ahead and ignore you about it.

It would definitely make transfers in the system easier
If there is a tail track at Blair, isn't it inevitable to short turn trains at Blair to save money.

Place d' Orléans will be a more important bus terminus than Trim but OC seems to like dumping passengers at empty fields rather than where passengers might want to go, like a major shopping centre.

But the train departure information is not available on the surface.
I feel that there's some software interconnectivity issue they aren't telling us, since neither new or old screens show the real train departure time.

I know they gave the excuse "we don't want you running for the train", but that excuse falls flat since every Line 2 station has a dot matrix display over the faregates with the actual departure time

I don't want to be running for no train, either, given the choice of flooring materials in Parliament and its stairs. However, I do want to be given all the information I require to decide whether it's worth my time or effort to wait or run for the bus.

The base problem as usual is that the people in charge don't think like transit users, and can't think like transit users, because they aren't transit users.

It kills me how many Stage 1 stations make it impossible to see the departure times from outside of the station, and even in the station is difficult. Tremblay comes to mind, but I know there are others.

Yeah, I'd like to see screens on concourse levels of all stations.

This is the station I use most and this has always frustrated me, but I figured it was a lazy oversight or cost cutting measure.

In addition to wanting to know if I should speed up my pace a bit, I've also found myself in the situation where I don't want to pay and then wait 10 minutes on the platform.
It is feasible for me to get on at Tremblay, get off at parliament, go to an hour appointment and get back on the train platform in the transfer window. But with the trains running slow on much of the track and the 10 minute frequency it is very easy to just barely miss that window and have to pay again.

The system is not reliable enough to withhold information from its users.

Yeah, at somewhere like the downtown subway stations, I would like to have that information so that I can make a rational decision about what to do with the next almost-ten minutes. I'd rather not waste it waiting for the next train because I will have missed the previous one by 76 seconds, when I could better use that time to quickly do some ATM business or, sometimes, even take a leak.

When they destroyed the City's dead Ash stock-pile, they should have pivoted to wood-ish looking metal like Line 2. Cheaper, cleaner, less maintenance.

I think the one they used for Line 2/4 looks better than what they picked for the newer Line 1 stations like trim

Was there a flood? That area is fairly weather protected. It might actually also be part of the wifi project, they were extending it to all stations

We want the entire stations equally damaged by salt. It just wouldn't look right if the exterior was corroded and the interior was in decent shape.

I took this the week before, based on the pattern on the floor I think probably a leak:

Meanwhile over at Bayview they have this access panel positioned right above the Trillium Pathway and it drips water directly onto the pathway all winter

For each 5 second reduction in station wait times, we can reduce end to end trip time by 1 minute. When Phase 2 opens, this becomes 2 to 3 minutes end to end. So, if we reduce station wait times by 10 seconds, this becomes 2 minutes for Phase 1 and 4 to 6 minutes when Phase 2 opens. Why is something as simple as this not considered? Or do we not care about making rapid transit actually rapid?

I agree with you here. The dwell times seem excessive right now. There hasn't been door issues in ages

What to think of those wire-suspended light fixtures at Tunney's Pasture?
Is this a fun and fancy-free setup, or just a bad design?

It's just a style they chose. All the line 1 stations have lights like that in their stairwells. It doesn't affect the functionality, so really it's just a matter of taste. They are fine to me. Actually I'll give them some credit for trying to add flair to the lighting in general, even the kind of spaceship like look they give to the entrances of stations like Pimisi
