The report notes the successful applicant as the Saskatoon Open Door Society, who are planning 112 units with multi-use community space, admin offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, and daycare.

I would estimate a 10-12 storey building for that many units and related facilities on a plot of land that size.
Hey, that sounds fantastic! Residential developments inside the Circle Drive ring are too rare --- and downtown residents are rarer still. This would be a big step in the right direction (in a bunch of ways), and it would fill a prominent gap in the core. I really like that a portion of the building will be used by the Society. This could turn into the perfect use for that corner --- I can't wait to see detailed plans.

Does the "Process" section of that page help clear things up? Right now it says that the proposal is with the Municipal Planning Commission, to be followed by a Public Hearing Notice. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think that hearing has happened yet. I also don't think that the city has sold its portion of the land. Is that right? We might be a little ways away from construction yet.

It's good to hear that the office building on 12th is scheduled to begin construction this year, though. 2025 might be a big year for developments and proposals in the core --- fingers crossed!

Unless you feel that Warman and Martensville could be convinced to chip in to help make a new interchange become a reality at this location.
I would suggest it benefits the bedroom communities most, it does not affect most residents of the Saskatoon - I would suggest holding off with the potential of a new arena downtown. The residents of bedroom communities are seeing the greatest value - they should be offering to allocate tax money equal to residents of Saskatoon.

I would rather see the city proceed with the new arena. Work on the densification of the downtown core. Endless suburban sprawl is not sustainable.

I am curious to know if anyone has information on nexgen or foran? Both mining companies seem to be going ahead with substantial projects in the province. But, both are headquartered in Vancouver with only secondary or operations offices in Saskatoon. Is there any likelihood that if their projects prove to be successful that they would ever move a head office to the province they mine in? Is there a benefit to that?

Martensville council approves rezoning of land for two apartment complexes

By TERRY PUGH
Clark's Crossing Gazette
FEB 19, 2025

A proposal by a national company to build two new apartment buildings in Martensville’s Lake Vista neighbourhood is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Martensville City Council voted at its February 18 meeting to amend its zoning bylaw and Official Community Plan (OCP) to allow a 2.72 acre parcel of land at the corner of Main Street and 16th Avenue North to be rezoned as R3 High-Density Residential from C2A Arterial Commercial.

Vancouver is the mining hotbed of N. America. The government offered potash companies a tax credit for "head office" jobs. I suppose they could do the same with copper and uranium. Without an incentive, I do not see it happening.

In response the Potash incentive:

The Saskatchewan government offers a corporate office incentive to potash companies to subsidize head office jobs. The incentive is a deduction from potash profit taxes.
How it works
The incentive is $25,000 per existing corporate office position in Saskatchewan
The incentive is $100,000 for new corporate office positions
A new position counts as an existing position after five years
Additional information
Saskatchewan is the only province in Canada with a potash industry
The Saskatchewan government has also introduced other incentives to help grow the critical minerals sector
These incentives include the Saskatchewan Chemical Fertilizer Incentive (SCFI) and the Critical Minerals Processing Investment Incentive (CMPII)
The SCFI is a 15% tax credit on capital expenditures for new or expanded chemical fertilizer production facilities
The CMPII offers transferable Crown royalty/freehold production tax credits for qualified greenfield or brownfield value-added processing projects
Nutrien getting head office tax break; cost of subsidy is unclear
Nov 19, 2018 — Despite being the only province with a potash industry, Saskatchewan subsidizes head-office jobs for potash companies.

Very interesting. Seems like quite the incentive for the potash companies. Is there anything similar for uranium? Does Cameco have a sweet deal to remain here?

Not that I am aware of. I believe there is still a law that requires Cameco's head office to be in SK.

Are there for sale signs on the property? This is news to me....I always thought they did extremely well. I know they like to holiday south, so maybe they are getting out of the business??

Any rumours on potential tenants for the new(ish) office building downtown on 4th and 20th? Or will it continue being a photo shoot location for the foreseeable future.

City council has approved HAF funding incentives for three new affordable housing projects, I can't wait to see some renders! Sounds like August 2026 is the deadline to start construction.

Community group hopes to revitalize Saskatoon's historic Chinatown

Liam O'Connor
CBC News
Feb 26, 2025

A grassroots project in Saskatoon is looking to shine a light on the city's forgotten Chinatown history through art and stories from its past and present.

The initiative, called Project Riversdale Chinatown, wants to revitalize the area with a combination of public art installations, community programming and archival preservation.

This is the white parking lot looking about kinda six floor office at the foot of Broadway Bridge that used to be a blood bank structure across from the Remai towers, no? I believe the marketing was own your business forever and buy your office space now instead of renting. Then something happened.

BHP is or has moved into the old police station a couple and a half blocks down th road, with hopefully as the developer envisions, a 20 story office building on the adjacent parking lot in the NEAR future. Haha.
