I think Chantel Hebert put it perfectly on a panel she was on a week or two ago. Canadians are interested in someone in leading or how she put it “acting prime ministerial”. Calm, collected, and trying to pull everyone together, but PP has continued to act like an attack dog. Slogans and parades aren’t what’s going to change how Canadians view you at this point, but being conciliatory and constructive might have helped. The thing is I don’t think there is a version of Poilievre that acts like Harper or Martin. I’m starting think that the only version PP is comfortable being is the always being on the attack, always throwing slogans around, them vs us mentality.
I considered voting for the conservatives before the resignation of Trudeau, thinking that PP would morph into the Job, that he was an effective leader of the opposition and this was the means to the Job, but I think the way he’s acting during a moment of crisis really spoke to his character. Now I can’t speak for all Canadians, but when they head to the polls they’ll have to chose not only between conservatives and liberals, but between Carney and Poilievre, and thats a real weakness for the conservatives. Carney is nothing special that’s for sure, terrible communicator, dubious dealings (maybe who knows), lack of political experience, but he’s intelligent and calm. That’s a big selling point when your competitor is known for four world slogans and shouting angrily.

One thing that is ultimately going to destroy PP, is the fact that he has done absolutely nothing to distance himself from far right celebrities endorsing him (Musk, O'Leary, Rogan, Peterson, Alex Jones, etc). The most unpopular people in Canada right now are Kevin O'Leary and Elon Musk. True, he has come out, and said what he would do to counter the tariffs imposed by Trrump, but it is not enough.
The fact that Poilievre has not commented on the cheerleading (even up to this weekend) by Kevin O'Leary, is unbelievable. If I were him, I would put out a statement to the media saying that "The CPC stands for all Canadians, and condemns Mr. O'Leary for speaking on behalf of Canada, to the President of the United States. He is not authorised to do this, and his opinions are not shared with the CPC."
He also would be wise to renounce the Musk endorsement, considering Musk and O'Leary are by far, the most unpopular Canadian citizens in the World. By not doing so, he is not only blowing a chance to distance himself for them, but many Canadians will have the impression that the CPC agrees with O'Leary and Musk.
