I've always wondered why people conflate the two terms when referring specifically to geodetic height or elevation.
It would be like saying
'Timmy is the "Tallest" one in the group over there...' - and yet ignoring the fact that Timmy is actually standing on a stack of books sitting on top of a coffee table.
But then again,......saying that
"Timmy is the "highest" one,......" would itself be problematic on its own for other reasons, on top of not quite being correct neither.
