If people are that bothered by social media, they should just opt out. Get a subscription to the Globe and Mail and the Economist and be done with it.

Personally, I find it all just a mindless entertainment. Not something to be taken seriously at all.

The bad news is everywhere, it's on legacy media too, and you don't get much opportunity to express your opinion there. On the bright side, we may all have to buy 🞵🞵🞵🞵 to protect ourselves soon, but it might be nice to have a new hobby.

For those experiencing issues, having the oppotunity to express their opinion could be part of the problem.

So, "Top Chef" (the American show) has announced their upcoming season (airing in March) will be in Canada, visiting Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and PEI.

What I find funny about this, is that in 1 single season, Top Chef will be visiting more locations across Canada than Top Chef: Canada has visited in nearly a dozen seasons.

I wonder if people may notice this enough to loosen McEwan's grasp on the Canadian show enough to get them to go to other places beside Toronto and Southern Ontario?

Your criticism is certainly valid. As far as I know, the show has never ventured outside of southern Ontario, and the insufferable McEwan always makes sure his expensive grocery store gets plenty of exposure.

the Invictus Games start Feb 8 in Vancouver. is it promoted in other parts of Canada? I think Katy Perry is performing at the opening and Chris Martin of Coldplay was just announced. London Drugs has an Invictus section with merchandise and there have been billboards etc promotion the games for a few months.

I've noticed a lot of Americans have their knives out on social media. His followers as this woman says are parroting what Trump says and she is feeling unwelcomed.

Also many Americans are posting things like Canadians will starve since they can't grow their own food, and Canada doesn't offer us anything we don't already have etc. Just a lot of arrogant, ignorant uneducated people with no knowledge of Canada.

We've been avoiding buying US products the last two weeks, most produce items are not from the USA anyway, premade packaged salads are from the States though so just don't buy them anymore. All the onions I see for sale seem to be from the USA, so will have to figure that out, things like oranges have options from Peru, Australia, China or South Africa, as most of the fruits.

Now that he has a handful of Newfoundlanders on Facebook, he can't help but notice our Memorial Day posts on July 1 (NL's version of Remembrance Day, but for WWI - military parades, wreath-laying, sombre posts from all authorities and businesses, etc.), and the Ocean Ranger memorial posts on Feb. 15 (also the anniversary of Canada's flag, apparently, which is 60 this year. Big push on it this year because of the Americans. Ocean Ranger was an oil rig that sank in 1982, it shattered our sense of modernity equaling safety. We didn't think that 🞵🞵🞵🞵 could happen, with 80+ dead, in the modern world. It had an outsized psychological/cultural impact for that reason):

Don't think I met her in my travels, did meet Edith Butler. Thinking back I might have met Maillet but I don't think it was in character

Actually you are mixing Antonine Maillet up with actress Viola Léger. Maillet invented the Sagouine character that Léger played.

Yup that's true. Whoever it was I think her English was quite good (not much of an accent). I know exactly where I met Butler, she was a guest on a gala TV show I was working on, with Terry Kelly and Fred (not Rich) Little. He was doing his lame impressions backstage asking me how they were and I'm thinking I'm just a kid what the hell do I know

Reacher season 3 just started and I just finished episode 1. The opening shootout and car chase was filmed in and around the GTHA as usual. But the car chase is a mix of Brantford and Ajax for some reason. The setting is supposed to be a college town in Maine. Edit: Apparently some of that scene might actually have also been shot in Millbrook, south of Peterborough, where A History of Violence was shot. I went there a couple of years ago and it had a slightly unique feel to it, but I could have been influenced by the knowledge that HOV was filmed there. Anyway, the logistics of this season are crazy so far.

It looks like the season will be set in New England as the lead detective has a thick accent. There was quite a bit of footage shot on George St. and area in St. John's. I can't figure out why they went so far out of the way to film there. Certainly made for an excellent backdrop, but I'm not sure why it was needed. Guess I'll have to watch more to see.

The antagonist's mansion is set on a rocky shored oceanfront. Except that's actually a mansion in Caledon, the part of the GTA where you find the most estates like that. The ocean stuff was all added by CGI.

I had some help by googling the filming locations for episode 1. Curious to see what else shows in the rest of the season.

Yeah, as in it felt a little different than the other hundred small towns I've passed through in Ontario. I mentioned this in the towns thread a couple of years ago about how small the main street was but it felt like there was more to it despite its short length. Like an actual feeling I felt and not just what I observed.

Schomberg is another place where all four times I've gone through I get a "feeling", which is influenced by the multiple eras of architecture and historical buildings (like a mill) you see that line the main street, but also because every single time you see lots of cars parked along the road but virtually no one outside walking around, even in the summer.

Stirling and New Hamburg have the diagonal main intersections, which is not very common for here. In those cases, just observing that gave me a different feeling of the town.
