Seems less than S24. Wasn’t Discovery FRA 13x weekly? I know MUC x3 is nice and Condor FRA is up too 3x Weekly S25. Seems we’re down a few flights this summer

Indeed. Fewer flights, definitely not an increase in service. Only perk is adding MUC.

Discover was 12 weekly to FRA. 5 weekly transferred to MUC only to be reduced to 3 weekly.
Condor was 2 weekly. Was planned to be 5 weekly then subsequently wound back to 3 weekly.

Overall Germany down only one flight per week this summer (14->13 per week)

Record breaking news! YYC welcomed 18.9 million passengers in 2024 – our biggest year yet! A huge thank you to our guests for choosing YYC as their gateway to the world and to our incredible airport community for making millions of connections possible every year.
Cheers to more exciting milestones ahead!

I wonder if they are going to repurpose an existing building or build something new for this. Sounds like the building will be owned by YYCAA

Both AA & WS resumed service to ORD today. In both cases, this is several months earlier than previous years.

AA operates daily on a E75, before going 2x daily 738 in June
WS operates 3x weekly on Mon / Thu / Sun until end of April, before going daily. WS already has it tentatively extended right through next winter too.

This article makes it sound clear it will be a new building, I wonder where it will go? Obviously a WJ focused story, but there will be lots of LEAP 1-B's out there and Im sure lots of room to grow. Definitely Great news for YYC.

Has there been any news on the Dehavilland field? Hopefully its still moving ahead. Calgary area could really grow its aviation work force in the next decade.

The older part of YYC terminal is downright depressing! Hoarding up everywhere but no indication of what’s to become of the spaces. Pre security is a ghost town. Post security, the boarding lounges in A and C are pretty narrow and crowded. The moving sidewalks are broken down again with, according to the signage, no timeline for repair. And the golf cart system is a joke! Definitely not a world class airport, yet they wanna be. But they are so far in debt to be able to get there.

Agreed.

There’s a lot of YYC that needs serious help.

My list of the biggest parts of YYC that are in serious need of fixing, in no particular order:
  • Domestic ticketing area (pre security) in the vicinity of the B concourse. It’s a massively long, entirely empty, beige hall totally devoid of any life or purpose. No function. No seating. No decor. No hope. Just endless beige tile and endless beige walls.
  • The pre-security area on the Departures level between B and C. Not all that long ago, this was a lively shopping and restaurant area with ample seating in a beautiful, mountain-themed area. Today, it looks like an inhospitable, long-bankrupt outlet mall that’s been boarded up.
  • Ditto for the space immediately before A security. A once vibrant space now feels like a post Apocalyptic version of Marlborough Mall.
  • The queue space for C security. Too little space, wedged between the escalators and a bunch of boarded up retail — but adjacent to a massive space that’s neither used nor accessible. When it’s busy, it’s chaos. When it’s not busy, it just looks non-sensical.
  • The mega-golf-cart track spanning most of the post-security connector corridor. Nice idea, awful execution. Thanks to being a massive space hog, the track made getting between the concourses much harder, not easier.
  • The departures level connector for people walking between C and D/E. They were passable when they were first built (and D was segmented as International only). When D just became a regular any-use concourse, the tunnels became bad. The newest fix is beyond idiotic. Forcing people through a stark drywall corridor to force them into duty- free one way, and exit via a departure gate the other way.
  • The food court in the A concourse. It’s usually busy and has good enough options. But the vibe and the decor of the place is a time machine to the 1990s. It’s like taking a Delorean back 30 years.
  • The A-20s gates. They’ve wedged in gates, podiums, seating, a major walking corridor, moving (sometimes) sidewalks, and a golf cart freeway in a space so narrow that it fits none of that. The result: boarding chaos and walkers blocked.
  • The seemingly abandoned C-70s gates between C and D. When first built (in 2016) these were for domestic flights out of the 70s gates. But it was awful design, poorly thought out, that made for a poor passenger experience. Today, they’re just a set of (oddly) abandoned and I presume inoperable boarding gates. They look like an old airport movie set. Just, odd.

There is actually is a lot of plans, money isn't as bad as the debt suggests since its underwritten from the province and Calgary has great passenger numbers and land is being developed which is owned by the Airport. The capital improvement plan was expected to heavy grow in 2024-2026 before the insurable loss. This was non passenger facing (fire safety, runways, parkade improvements) but the plan was to go from 30 million average spend in 2019-2023 to 115 Million in capital spend 2024-2026 all while airport still has about 100 million a year in free cash flow.

B gates will open spring/summer 2026 and will help a lot. They will actually be new and modern with new facilities. This will help take the congestion out of C and A.

Really though, the airport is just too wide for how its being used. There will never be a fix for that, and really pronounced for connecting flights.

So whats going on behind all the construction hoarding between the WJ and AC check in counters? I agree, it's quite depressing looking, usually if there is some improvement coming you would want to advertise it.

Sounds like it’s going to be a centralized security checkpoint, replacing both A and C. Something like 9 lanes? (But cannot confirm this).

It makes sense thats what it would be, could be a big improvement between this and the renovated B wing.

Also looks like some sort of new Westjet/ Aspire "garden lounge" I think they called it. Im guessing it's just an expansion of the current trans boarder Aspire, not totally clear since the hoarding made it look more like a westjet lounge was coming.

Think it’s great that YYC has growth again after last years record #’s. Nice to see Domestic back into + again. Can see Transborder taking a real nose dive in the coming months (unless Americans come up here)

WS has increased KEF to 6x weekly during peak summer periods (late June-end of August)

There's also been a few more Transborder flights cut here and there, but no overall frequency reductions outside of SNA.

Not sure if this was brought up already but CMA sort of suddenly started YYC-YXS a few weeks ago. Not sure why, and not sure why the flights don't operate out of the domestic terminal

Maybe avoid the AIF?

Maybe they signed a contract for a block of seats on a crew change or something. Selling the rest to the public?
