I just heard from someone that Akman is planning to build a 7-story apartment building with 145 units there.

Reasonable number of units. I am always hoping for more. Easily could be 200+ units on that lot.

I'm sorry. My previous knee-jerk comment was harsh. The crotchety old man in me tends to come out sometimes. The lights are very pretty.

I assume anything built there would be accessible from Mayfair, no? The lot is more visible from Mayfair than from River.

Yeah thank god they turned that surplus land into a... chunk of mowed grass with a wooden fence...? Yet to see a single person use it

I believe they are able to fit seven stories under the high-rise limit. The threshold where costs increase dramatically. Must be concrete construction.

Six floors is the allowable maximum for wood frame. High-rise is defined by height not floors. 18 meters to the top of the floor of the top storey. If you are tight it can be done. The Bend on waterfront is 7 and is below high-rise classification.

Arguing semantics. But Akman is hired to build a 7 storey building. They're not the owner.

333 Wardlaw Ave is now open as of yesterday:

Looking at the Paragon Living website, it seems that 47 out of the 55 rental apartments are already filled. All 1-bedrooms are leased, the only remaining apartments are 6 2-bedroom apartments on the main floor and 2 3-bedroom apartments.

Evidently the variances for the proposed mixed use building at Stafford and McMillan expired so it has been resubmitted. Looks like it has been redesigned from the initial proposal. It seems to look less gimmicky and includes more prominent commercial space fronting Stafford now.

^The new design looks nice, if a bit generic. Should make a good addition to that corner.

the stafford side looking like a prominent facade is a better move....they hired a different architect......a lot of copy and paste there but take it.

Ya it’s bit plain but there are enough good design elements to make it a good urban infill project. Looking forward to seeing it go up!

Plain sure, but way better than the fake multiple-buildings-in-multiple-styles-joined-by-party-walls thing they had going before.

I really love when you do genuinely have buildings joined by party walls that are all clearly distinct from one another, but you've got to earn that. The previous design was like the pleather version of incremental development.

Proposal for 128 River Ave, closer to Main St.

6 storey building. Nice to see some action in that area.
