Funny that people are dissing Brentwood Town Centre without considering the fact that this is one of the most sought-after places to live in the country now, with rental rates second in the country only to Vancouver's. It is also one of the most vibrant entertainment and F&B centres in the Lower Mainland today. For such a short time of growth from a very humble industrial neighbourhood along an old trunk road, this town centre has certainly come a long way. Amazing Brentwood will be complete once the indoor mall is rebuilt. As per many other city or town centres, indoor malls are key to their vibrancy and investment growths.

This place still has a lot of potential to grow with the right policies in place. Paying the mall a visit, you'll never feel dull, especially at the plaza and foodhall areas. With Gilmore completing, and the future Grosvenor place right across the street, Brentwood Town Centre is certainly looking up.

It's a shame that they couldn't make a go of the interior mall as a mall.
The demolition and separation of the retail areas will provide a good indication
to Ivanhoe Cambridge whether or not splitting up a mall can work (vis-a-vis Metropolis).

I'm surprised that TJX has not announced a Winners relocation (and consolidation with a Homesense, or a standalone Marshalls)
from the small Madison Centre store to either Gilmore Place or Amazing Brentwood.

A Michaels store would also fill a gap in their coverage too:

I think these mall redevelopments are more about trying to limit their loss of their commercial drawing power to neighbouring redevelopments. Concord Metrotown's ability to fill their podium will be interesting to watch.

Looking at Google, not sure if its current, the former Best Buy on Kingsway across from Metropolis (in Centrepointe at the other end of the pedestrian overpass) now appears to house a Shoppers Drug Mart, Moore's suits and a Starbucks and a school upstairs.
To the west, it looks like a BMO moved out?

I think all these standalone retail spaces will need store that are destinations, rather than run of the mill stores or boutiques.

BMO moved into all that space at Station Square. The Shoppers, Moore's and Starbucks all look like they've been there since it opened.

I wonder why they still have that Best Buy there with the other location in Station Square..

Just looked at the 2009 image on Google.
You're right. SDM, Moore's and Starbucks were all there before.
Best Buy would have been upstairs, I guess, then moved to Station Square.
The upstairs is now Alexander College.
March 2021 still had "for lease" signs. April 2022 has Alexander College signs, so 5-6 years vacant?

Ah right I was looking at an aerial view of the building which still had the Best Buy logo on the side of the building. Makes sense now.

I cant imagine living in the parts of these towers facing each other. Your view out the window will be directly into the apartments right next to you and vice versa. Not to mention being in the permanent shadow of the south tower.

South side will have less Skytrain/ Lougheed HWY noise, still bright and won't be as hot in summer while still bright enough.

Can you imagine living in any historic central city in Europe that so many hold up as a great urbanist models? 85% of all residences look right across the street to a wall of other residences. And as for shadows: everyone gets a crack of sunshine each day at most.

Then you cannot live in down town Vancouver, which is worse, not to mention the PPS is more expensive.

I still think tearing down the mall to make a outdoor mall is a huge mistake, Vancouver needs some indoor mall for good 4 months of the year, due to wet cold , sometimes snowy and windy condition.

I totally agree and am a huge advocate of large city/urban centre indoor malls. My understanding is that the Brentwood indoor mall will be refurbished, unless something changed that I'm not aware of.

The refurbishment is cancelled. There will be residential towers where the old mall is located.

From recent photos I don't think they're down to the bottom of the pit yet (four levels?)

How about they open some of the stores in the existing portion of the mall already? I'm looking at you, the suit place, the donut place and the nail salon place. Ridiculous that they've been "coming soon" for months and years. If you're not going to open, let somebody else who will move in.
